Funny with a tendency toward too precious
According to the canon, Darth Vader is a father. In this book of Jeffrey Brown's Star Wars child rearing cartoon books: Darth Vader and Son, The Malicious Master of the dark side is also subject to all of the situations any parent of a 4 year old experience, plus a few more. Who knew that a masked and capped character can express emotions giving us a way to enjoy the simple pleasures of fatherhood? (Are we there yet?) .In 54 pages Brown illustrates all the common expressions of child rearing and places them in the nerd universe of Star Wars. Here, Luke really is a little short to be a Storm Trooper. The results are not always funny but they do allow us to remember and relive these moments with a smile.Family friendly and aspiring nerd appropriate.

Not a bedtime story
It's a little misleading that this is a board book. Board books are usually for preschool kids. This book is full of jokes parents will understand all too well. Kids can enjoy as well but some pages will need to be explained for them to understand the humor. I would recommend this as a gift to a parent who is also a Star Wars fan.

The Only Bedtime Story for My Son & his Dad
My husband and I make bedtime stories a routine, and when it is Dad's turn - the is THE ONLY BOOK IN EXISTENCE. I love hearing them together. Even if you are not a bedtime story family, or even Star Wars fan's, this is a great book. No words, but that isn't an issue! With the fin and elaborate illuminations, ou can change the "story-telling" every time. Highly recommend.

Not for little kids
My wife doesn't get most of the obscure references and she's seen the movies a couple times. My son has no idea what's going on and likes to ask questions that have age-inappropriate answers. It's like physical click-bait for a Star Wars fan. Good luck explaining to your kids what's going on in some of these scenes.

My husband loves reading this book...my toddler too
Great book. My husband thinks these illustrations are funny (even has shared some with his friends’ group text) so makes it fun for him to read it to our toddler son. My son is sorta interested in it, mostly because dad is chuckling the whole time. He’ll probably grow into it a little more too. Good for nerd bonding.

Adorable Ode to the Clone Wars Generation
I grew up during the Star Wars era - where Anakin Skywalker was a mangled, cyberfilled ball of hate with only the vocal talents of James Earl Jones saving him from eternal peril (that Jones' voice can save the soul of a man who blew up a flipping planet is quite a testament). My little princess grew up during the airing of Star Wars The Clone Wars where Anakin Skywalker was a barely scarred, good-natured, slightly impatient hero teaching a padawan while still needing guidance himself. For children who's first glimpse of Anakin wasn't one of a genocidal vassal of Darth Sidius and parents who don't want to bring that up until later, this is a beautifully entertaining book. Purists risk hating it and imagining using The Force to give wedgies to its author. It's cute, touching, endearing, and filled with moments where parents will relate to the poor Sith lord and children will see the Jedi in themselves. I've read this to my daughter; she's read it to her friends; and her friends have read it to her. It's pure, sentimental gold. Its only flaw is that it makes me crave the arrival of "Vader's Little Princess" that much more.

Surprisingly enjoyable for little kids
My nephews, 2&4, love this book. They have never seen Star Wars but they enjoy the antics of little Luke and how Daddy Darth Vader helps him use his magical force powers to get cereal, etc. The subtleties of the references are completely lost on them, but does it really matter? You don't have to explain who R2D2 and C3PO are for kids to be interested in those robots stuck in the sand. The book is also great for their attention spans. They want to look at a funny picture (that has only a few words accompanying it) and have an adult create a narrative about what is going on. A hardcore Star Wars parent would be upset that they are completely spoiled to the surprise in Empire Strikes Back... But I think it's wonderful that the classic characters are becoming familiar names to such small children.

Funny and touching
Cute scenarios and shenanigans make for a good little book. I never thought Luke would be a boy just learning about the world with a father who might have been better than his movie counterpart. But this is all hilarious and heartwarming. I got this along with the other books in the series and now have a collection. Good work, Jeffrey Brown!

I AM YOUR FATHER!!!
A hilarious look into the life of Darth Vader as a 'normal' father instead of the galaxy ruling dictator he actually is. This book has absolutely wonderful artwork in it and, in fact, this is what first drew me towards it. Upon reading it, it's actually a hilarious, family friendly look at the Star Wars family which is actually quite touching in places. This is an ideal gift for Star Wars fans and it is as respectable to the Star Wars universe as it is hilarious. Highly recommended!

Inexplicably funny to small children
My kids (2 and 4) LOVE this - which astounds me as they have NO knowledge of Star Wars at all and therefore miss the majority of the humour...only understanding the surface jokes. Still, they love it - and I do get the jokes so I enjoy it too. I'm a bit concerned they'll be confused when they're finally old enough to watch the real Star Wars movie, but we'll worry about that another day...For those who HAVE watched Star Wars - and have kids - the jokes work (e.g. getting ready for school, tidying up toys or taking an important call from the boss) and I almost wish Darth Vader HAD taken care of Luke. He'd certainly not have had the energy to be one of the Sith.

Husband and son love it
My husband is a Star Wars geek and my son is called Luke - I got this for my husband as a father's day gift and it went down brilliantly! My son also likes it (he's 3) as he looks a lot like Luke in the drawings - he actually thinks it IS him in the book. Personally as someone who has only seen the Star Wars films once each and was an adult at the time, I am not as much of a fan as my husband, so this book is less funny to me than it is to him. That's the only reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 - I don't think its appeal is universal - you have to know and love Star Wars (the original 3 movies) to truly get the humour in this book. Still, there are a lot of Star Wars geeks out there and if you know one who has recently become a dad then this is an excellent choice.

Beware of the year
Beware!! Bought at the end of Sept as a Christmas present, didn't check the date as I never thought for a second an, almost out of date, calender would cost £10.99! So disappointed
