Virtually perfect
I wanted this as a second laptop for travelling. My main criterion was size and I'd given up trying to find something new with a 12" or less screen; there doesn't seem to be anything available. In the end I chose this for a) size and b) price and because with a 256Gb hard drive it might withstand Windows' ablity to take up absurd amounts of room. My current travelling Lenovo has only 64Gb and it was becoming unusable as Windows 11 and apps slowly eat up hard drive space, despite one's best efforts to keep cleaning it up. The X280 arrived about 48 hours following the order. A couple of very minor nicks on the case, otherwise completely clean and new looking. Fired up straightaway. Despite its age (2018), it's really very quick indeed. Everything I needed installed fast and it's now up and running just as I would want it to. Nice keyboard and the screen is very bright and sharp. For 165 pounds it's pretty good value. In fact it's extremely good value - so long as it lasts. We'll have to wait and see.

A Curate's Egg
The laptop is in excellent condition, almost new looking, and with very good battery life. It's light and portable and for the money is a very decent piece of kit. However, it's simply not up to the task of running Windows 11. The laptop is prone to screen blanking, lagging and is, in practical terms, utterly unstable as a Win 11 machine. After trying the latest version of Ubuntu (also unusable) I found that Linux Mint (MATE) provided an excellent, fast OS. For a modest outlay, and with the installation of an appropriate OS this is a portable, light laptop which addresses web browsing, document preparation and most other tasks on the go.

I believe they are scamming me
This machine has never worked acceptably. They will not refund my money due to numerous faults with the machine. Now the fan overheats - here is the reply they sent me: Thank you for the update. Please note that unfortunately, your device is no longer eligible for a refund as the 30-day return period has closed. However, please rest assured that your device is still covered by the warranty. Before we're able to authorise a return for repair we need to ask a few questions. This is the standard procedure which applies to all RMA requests. Please confirm whether the device has suffered from any liquid damage or other accidental damage such as being dropped. Please also take a look at this list which shows what is NOT covered by the warranty. • Normal wear and tear of Product use • Misuse, lack of care, mishandling, accident, abuse or other abnormal use (Don't eat or drink over your laptop. Eating on your laptop or even in front of your laptop could lead to bits of food falling into the keyboard. Some liquid food being consumed by a user could also spill over the keyboard and lead to damages in the hardware components on the motherboard). • Use of the Product other than for its intended purpose • Damage caused by improper or unauthorized repair or maintenance • Warranty is void if repairing without our consent or warranty seal is broken • Product that has been modified or altered • Software issues (any problems associated with software – whether bundled or installed by user, file corruption, internet setup etc.). • Accidental damage like breaking the screen or spilling liquid on it. You would need independent insurance to cover this. We would also need for you to take a few photos of your device from different angles and send them to us in an attachment. Please read and follow the instructions on how to take the photos thoroughly as this is very important. Please make sure that the photos are taken in good lighting and make sure the photos are clear and not hazy. We recommend cleaning your camera lens with a microfiber cloth before taking the photos. Please make sure that while you're taking the photos, you do not cut the corners of the laptop in the frame. The entire laptop should be visible in each photo (with the exception of the screen & keyboard photos). It's also important that the ports on the sides of the laptop are clearly visible. Please take photos showing the laptop from every single side. We require at least 14 photos in total. We need photos which show: Left side Right side Front Back Top Keyboard Screen Underside A photo of every corner of the laptop (4 photos in total) We also need 2 photos of the charger, showing all 6 sides of the brick (one photo should display the top and two sides, and the second photo should display the bottom and the two opposite sides). Please take a look at the attached photo which shows how to take the photos. Please also confirm whether or not the keycaps in the keyboard feel sticky or mushy. Please note that only one area of the keyboard may be affected, so please check all of the keys. Sticky or mushy keys may be harder to press down or will take longer to bounce back to their original position or may not bounce back at all. Please also let us know whether the device has been used with the original charger supplied by us, or if it has been used with a different or a replacement charger. Once you confirm that the device has not been subject to any of the above, we will be able to authorise the return. Please note that a device will not be eligible for a warranty repair if any of the above apply to your device. If you misrepresent the condition of the device and we find that it has been damaged by liquid, you may be subject to a £50 charge to cover the cost of the inspection. Please note that software issues are also not covered by the warranty, if our technicians find that the root cause of the problem was a software issue, your repair may be subject to a £30 charge to cover the reinstallation of the software and labour. Kind Regards I spent £160-£170 on a malfunctioning heap of junk which will be impossible to "fix". In my view: Avoid like the plague.

Great laptop - but....
Laptop arrived on time, adequately packed and in relatively good condition until I turned it on. The display /screen had faint horizontal lines that were visble and the shimmering effect made it impossible to use the device for any length of time without making me feel slightly 'sea sick'..... Pity - great laptop otherwise, but unuseable by me because of this minor issue.
