Poor binding quality
The size of the book is too small compared to the sizes of the books in the other reviews. The binding of the pages are also of poor quality. The pages of the book would easily tear off, this problem started from day one. Hope you solve this problem

Good for JLPT N5 Kanji prep
The book covers about 100 Jōyō Kanji that appear in the JLPT N5 exam, with theory-oriented content like a preface about Kanji and its types, rules of stroke order, stroke endings, types of radicals, and so on. The Kanji are broken up into 5 different categories (like numbers, directions, etc.) and taught in lessons with each one containing explanations, examples, space for writing practice, and practice sections with audio files in some exercises. There's also one additional lesson for review and more advanced practice. Knowing Hiragana and Katakana is a prerequisite. As another review mentions, some of the stroke orders are in the Chinese order and not the Japanese one. I'd recommend using jisho.org or a similar easy-to-use online tool to confirm stroke orders. It matters in writing, but from what I know the need to physically write Kanji doesn't tend to come up much in daily life. Overall it's a useful resource for the JLPT N5 exam, but do complement it with other materials covering concepts like grammar and vocabulary for well-rounded learning and preparation.

Great kanji learning resource if you like to use mnemonics! Great to pair with other Japanese learning material and probably not best used on its own as it’s only for the first few kanji.

I've been studying kanji using flashcards, and can read many pretty well when I see them. However, I don't practice writing enough, and struggle to recall most kanji without seeing them. This book is a great help. Each kanji is presented clearly, along with its meaning, readings and stroke order. There is space to practice each character. And plenty of exercises to help really embed what you've learned. This book makes it very easy to just pick up, and practice a few kanji for 15 minutes when you're free. And anything that makes learning easier and less hassle, can only be a good thing. This book covers the first hundred or so kanji you need for JLPT N5. Hopefully it's popular enough that they make books for the next 2,000+ kanji we need for N1!

Excellent book. The organization of Kanji into coherent functional and semantic groups is well thought out. Tactile-kinesthetic learners will find that writing Kanji is a fun learning experience and it works. Lots of pictures to help visual learners. Audio files online for auditory learners too.
