If you have cable & don't like their box, get this
We have Charter Spectrum in the area that we live and unfortunately the cable DVR boxes that were provided are 15 year old technology and terrible to work with. We have had Dish's Hopper, DirecTV boxes, and when we were in an area that had Xfinity, we had the X1 DVR. All of those units were good quality units and we didn't have too many complaints with them. However, we had been customers of TiVo years ago before we had high definition television and once we moved into an area that had Charter Spectrum with terrible DVRs, we finally grew tired of their offering and decided to make the switch back to TiVo again. There were some initial woes getting everything set up in that I had obtained a cable card and a tuning adapter from Charter and could not get them to work with the box at all. After going through customer support with Charter, they sent out a technician and determined that both the card and the tuning adapter were faulty units. After replacing both of the units and getting them paired where they could talk to each other, the TiVo was up and running. We really like the interface and love having the robust level of control over programming that we used to. The voice control is fantastic and we couldn't be happier with the unit at this point. The only thing that we miss on this box as compared to our original TiVo Series 2 boxes are the original TiVo sounds that it made when you would fast forward or rewind programming. :-).The addition of the apps built into the unit is fantastic. We would like to see a larger selection of apps, similar to what we see on our Roku box, but having Netflix, Amazon, Plex, and YouTube goes a long way for us. We don't have a Hulu subscription so that didn't come into play for us.We also bought a Tivo Mini Vox and initially had troubles getting it to communicate with the Bolt but discovered after several hours of technical support at our signal-to-noise ratio on our coaxial cabling was high and we needed to add an attenuator to the Mini to get it to talk to the Bolt properly. Once we did that, it worked perfectly. If you have a hard-line ethernet network in your home, that would be the preferred way to set these up, but we didn't, so we chose to make the Bolt a MoCA bridge for the Mini which was why we needed the attenuator to address the signal issues over the coaxial lines. We haven't had the unit that long but again I can say that we are absolutely thrilled with the Bolt at this point. It's a great unit, small footprint, and does what it's supposed to do. If you are looking for an alternative to your cable company's DVR, this is definitely the way to go.

TiVo Bolt - Cablecard not pairing is a TiVo problem, not your cable company
TiVo and their Bolt gets 1 star from a 12+ year customer. I purchase this Bolt for my husband. The Bolt is still not working, and he likes the Comcast Service Representative better than the TiVo Representatives. TiVo has not been quick to offer to replace this unit and has been slow at agreeing that the unit needs to be replaced until at least 5 cablecards have been tried in the TiVo Bolt.He did the set up and pick up a cablecard from Comcast, spent 30 minutes pairing and could not get it paired, V66. They asked for him to pick up another card or they would ship him one.He went back picked up another card, the proceeded to the pairing with Comcast and then a three-way call with TiVo. We tried the new card, the card from out our TiVo Premier (okay after this did not work, they should have offered to replace our TiVo), moved the TiVo upstairs, disconnected the cable splitters, thumbs downed, thumbs up, play play and other ideas for 2 hours. Nothing worked, and Comcast really stayed on the line with me through it all. We did go to the TiVo web site to be sure that we requested the latest software update.Next day, software updated, and he still has a V66 error. He just picked up another cablecard from Comcast and he still has the same V66. Speaking to Comcast and TiVo, he actually has to tell TiVo he wants another box, they have not offered to replace our box. They asked where I purchased it and when he told them Amazon they told us we had to return this box to Amazon and ask for a replacement. He has asked for a supervisor. We are now told that if we cannot return the box to Amazon there are two options.Standard exchange, return our defective box and then TiVo will send us a new box once TiVo receives our defect box.Advance exchange, he pay a deposit of $299.99 and they will ship him a new TiVo and he will get it in 4-5 business days.He can pay for overnight shipping for $22.59 but only gives you overnight from FedEx, TiVo still needs 2-3 business days.We are now 8 days into our new contract after being with TiVo since Jan 2006 or longer (had two accounts), and another 1.5 hour phone call, no seriously. He has been on the phone now for over 5 hours to get this Bolt working and he will be waiting another 4-5 business days.So here we go, paid $324.74 for the deposit, oops they forgot to mention plus tax for the advance exchange. He opted out to pay the extra $22.59 for overnight shipping. But once he gets everything hooked up and working they will credit him $14.99 for one month of service!

Best Tivo Yet!
Well I can see there is a lot of disagreements regarding people's experience with this Tivo Bolt. I can only talk to my own experience over the last 6 months or so that I have owned the unit, but overall, it's been Excellent. Here's Summary:Pros:- The New remote with the voice activating and searching has been Excellent. It does a great job understanding what I'm asking and very quickly finds what has been requested.- With 4 tuners, (and seemingly fewer good shows on every year!), I have plenty of recording power and rarely if ever run into a conflict- The new user interface is going to be a subject of personal preference but I don't have an issue with it....- The Netflix and App integration is awesome - One button to go to Netflix! Also, as I find myself watching as much YouTube as I do real TV, it's very quick and easy to access YT through the app menu.-The Tivo Peanut remote remains the best, most comfortable remote I've ever used on any system....by a long shot.Cons- Originally the YouTube app seemed to be having trouble and long videos would hang after about 20 minutes so that I would have to back out of the app. I believe they must have fixed this in a recent upgrade as I have not had that problem in over a month.Overall, it has been a great unit and by far the best Tivo yet. I remain firmly convinced that Tivo is the best system to interact with your TV by far. Cable boxes cannot touch them.
