The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy is the greatest motorcycle road race in the world, the ultimate challenge for rider and machine. It has always called for a commitment far beyond any other racing event, and many have made the ultimate sacrifice in their quest for victory. TT3D Closer to the Edge is a story about freedom of choice, the strength of human spirit and the will to win. It's also an examination of what motivates those rare few, this elite band of brothers who risk everything to win the race. Review: TT3D - An almost perfect documentary - I should start this review by saying that although I enjoy watching motor car racing (especially Formula 1), I've never followed motorbike racing and I don't ride a motorbike either. To be honest, they scare me half to death. And I came to this film having just seen the much-hyped Senna, which I enjoyed and admired, but wouldn't rate as a great film. I was fearing that it would be similarly over-hyped. But I couldn't be more wrong. This is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen and I would recommend it to everyone regardless of whether or not they like motor racing (of any type). What makes this documentary so great is that it explores the human condition and, in particular, attempts to explain why these men risk their lives to win a race. And they certainly do risk their lives and they know they are risking their lives. The year of TT races that this documentary covers allows the filmmakers to explore the full range of experience. They do this by observing the participants and letting them talk. There is no attempt to force the analysis; instead, we see how these men are drawn into this obsessional pastime and it comes to define their lives. The film is quite extraordinary in the way you get behind the various characters and by the end you cannot help but admire their brave passion. The racing shots are pretty awesome as well. And if you don't know the story of that year's TT races, you will be drawn into a dramatic roller-coaster of emotion. Only one aspect of the film disappointed me; the 3D. I wouldn't have minded if the whole film was in 3D or if none of it was (frankly I'd have preferred the whole thing in 2D so that I could concentrate on the characters). But the 3D version is deeply flawed because although most of the film is shot in 3D, they couldn't mount 3D cameras on the bikes. So what would have been the most amazing 3D shots ever - blasting around the life-threatening curves of the TT course - are absent. And the switching between the 2D and 3D causes you to notice and watch the effects rather than allowing you to focus on the story. But, of course, with this release, you can sit back and watch the whole film in blu-ray or DVD 2D, which is the way to go. This really is a fabulous film and one of the cinematic gems of 2011. Review: Nice price - Good watch

iomtt2010, guy martin & co.
A very good documentary film about the IOMTT, including Guy Martin, John Mac, Connor Cummins, Cam Donald, Mike Dunlop. This film gives anyone who has never attended the TT races an insight into why people want to race at the most famous road circuit in the world. Anyone who rides motorbikes or watches motorcycle racing can understand why, and where the guys are coming from with their attitude to racing there. The film gives non bikers an insight into what it takes to race at the IOM, without actually having to go there. The only way to really appreciate the TT races is to go there and watch it from the roadside, it would also give you a chance to get involved in the fantastic party atmosphere that goes on there during TT fortnight. If this film inspires anyone to want go to the TT, my advice is go! you will love every minute!!! I did!!

Hold on to your seats!...
I have to 'fess up and declare that I knew absolutely diddly squat about motorbike racing or the Isle of Man TT (except that they are both VERY fast), but brought this DVD after watching the BBC TV show 'The Boat That Guy Built' and finding myself fascinated with the character that is Guy Martin. I wasn't disappointed on either front - there is plenty of focus on Guy Martin, more so than the other riders, but the racing left me breathless and with sweating palms. I was absolutely in awe of what these riders do and the speeds at which they do it at; as a documentary it works on every level - informative, exciting and never a dull moment. The filming of the racing is very well done, giving a real sense of just how fast these guys race and the danger they face on every corner; in fact this film is also tinged with sadness, as every year racers and members of the public lose their life either racing or riding the TT course. Again, the film makers handle this aspect of the phenomenon that is TT very well and strike just the right balance between the thrilling action on the course and the devastation to those left behind when a rider dies. As well as the main feature and extras, there is a bonus DVD with even more to keep the viewer hooked - all in all this is definitely worth buying, even for those like me who aren't neccesarily into motorbike racing - I defy anyone not to be blown away by this. There is a great quote from the film - 'Just because you're breathing doesn't mean you're alive' - sums up what these guys do perfectly!

Thrilling
If you have even a passing interest in motorcycles this documentary will hold your attention. It follows several riders before and during the Isle of Man TT - a motorcycle race on 37 miles of closed public roads on the island. PROs - excellent documentary by a director who is clearly a road racing fan - great interviews with leading riders - an insight into the mindset of the riders CONs - too much focus on one rider (Guy Martin), others (e.g. the Dunlop brothers) get far too little airtime -oddly the onboard footage is lacking, and what bits there are tend to be poor with the camera angle pointing too low - on youtube there are numerous vastly superior onboard clips (e.g. Lockk9 TT Racing has brilliant stuff on his channel) - what has Jared Leto got to do with road racing?? At least The Road (documentary on the Dunlop family) had Liam Neeson doing the narration and who has some idea what road racing is all about. But Jared Leto doing the narration - baffling! It really shows up what the millionaire stars of pro-sports playing for their billionaire owners just really are. If you want real skill, risk and bravery this is the real thing. Overall this is thrilling stuff. An easy 5 stars.

A Racers Film
One of the best motorcycle films I've ever seen and certainly the best about road racing. The photography and editing are top drawer with obviously a lot of research and planning involved in the construct of the film. The Director has captured the essence of a road racers passion for the sport as seen first hand through the eyes of the competitors, family, friends and supporters. The interviews are insightful and even terrifying. The racing sequences are almost surreal in that it just doesn't seem possible to ride a motorcycle at that level of speed on roads that afford such catastrophic danger. Yet we see them do it and even witness horrific crashes that are brilliantly captured and potently rendered. This is an insightful, emotional and even romantic look at a sport that at first blush appears to be completely insane.

awesome
Saw this product first on the plane and was very impressed and watched it numerous times since. This film and others in similar vein bring motorcycle racing to life. It's not just a dull record of a race which took place a few year ago. These are real people and their lives and stories. It's very good to watch and brings home the exitement of road racing to the viewer, has lots of humour and down to earth stories. A jewel of a film and has so many anecdotal and film of related events like Robert and Joey Dunlop legendary status. You feel almost that you're there and that is by any standard a sign of a succesful film/documentary. I bought 2 on the strength of what I saw and took one abroad to motorcycle entusiast for whom IoM TT is just a distant dream.

______________________________________________________________________________ A film about the progress of the pilots for their participation in TT. Before, during, after, everything goes ... It's beautiful, it's good, it smells gum. The atmosphere is extremely well transcribed even if more images of the race would have been nice .. If you're a fan, it's a movie your have to see .. And Blu-ray ... embedded 3D cameras, it's just scary! I had seen almost everything that was done about TT .. but there is still a cut above .. For those who wish to one day make the pilgrimage to the Isle of Man, here is a great appetizer! In short, I do not regret buying ..

... not very often that a movie about racing entertains like this. It is simply the best racing documentary ...
It's not very often that a movie about racing entertains like this. It is simply the best racing documentary I've ever seen. The quality of footage is insightful and breathtaking. The human stories of why these riders risk what they do, and the wives and mothers, along with race owners and the mechanics that make the speed of these machines is captured in a heart warming and touching way. I started riding a year ago and this movie evokes everything that it means a feels to ride a bike. prospective all the thoughts that go through your mind It's a type of movie you will watch over and over again. The Irish, English accents are thick, subtitles is highly recommended, at least the first time through! I had heard about the TT races, I now realize the challenge that it is. Many of the best riders in Motor GP, marvel at what these riders do. There is a still shot in the movie of a church with its bells ringing and the still of a Sunday morning being broken with riders speeding around brick walls at top speed. Race fan or not you will love this movie, it's a must see.

Suchtpotenzial! ;-)

Gripping, thrilling white knuckle ride
Follow the top riders through their preparation, practice and racing at the worlds most thrilling and dangerous motorcycle race: the Isle of Man TT. All the action, main events and historical achievements from what was a vintage year. Beautifully shot, sensitively edited, it captures the grit, determination and calculated risk as riders aspire to put in the perfect lap on a 37.73 mile course that takes years of practice to memorise, let alone ride at speeds of 200 mph plus. There might be better road racing videos out there, very few capture the “why” as well as this. A must own, and the 3D is very, very good
