I am having trouble getting the pans to stay stable... Probably doing something stupid.. Please help.

Yes, this is a problem, and I assumed I was the only one experiencing this until I read the reviews here. I plan on buying museum putty to provide a firm but temporary hold. My half pans (and I am referring to the actual plastic "holder," not the block of paint) are both loose and rock back and forth. Not sure what the problem is. Wearing down the paint may help a bit when it comes to the brush actually lifting the block of paint out, but nothing short of some sort of external adhesive will fix the looseness/unevenness of the half pans. (I may be misusing the terminology - I always think of pan/half-pan as referring to the plastic housing around the paint, not just the solid block of paint within the housing.)

what size is the brush?

The brush is approximately a #6 and 4.5" long. I am getting one of the store-in-the-handle ones because I personally prefer a longer handle. The one it comes with is of good quality. So if you are comfortable with a short brush you will be fine. Best of luck.

does the paint fall out of pans?

Yes and No. If they are brand new, it can. But once you start using them, the melted paint will fill the gap between the paint and the pan and they will dry out to stick to the pan. Hope this helps!
