A good compilation of Rod's songs, sung in his inimitable gravelly voice - which isn't as gravelly these days!

Can't beat this for £2.50

Although I've never considered myself as a big fan of Rod Stewart, I have to admit that there is plenty to admire on this 2CD compilation which covers his career from the 1970s through to the end of the century. Disc 1 (A Night Out) is, in my opinion, the weaker half of the package even though it does include 3 early classics in the shape of 'Maggie May', 'You Wear It Well' and 'Stay With Me' (The Faces). Disc 2 (A Night In) demonstrates Rod's vocal skills in their best light with lovely, reflective songs such as 'Sailing', 'The Killing Of Georgie', 'The First Cut Is The Deepest', 'You're In My Heart', 'I Don't Want To Talk About It', 'I Was Only Joking' and the glorious 'In A Broken Dream' (Python Lee Jackson with an uncredited, but searing, vocal performance from Rod). This is a very decent collection and really good value for money.

To use the title of one of Mr. Stewart's more recent singles - "I Can't Deny It" - I can't deny that this really is a superb history of the man and am pleased that it touches on the Faces as well. The only track I feel uncomfortable with is "DoYa Think I'm Sexy" but I read somewhere that Rod isn't too thrilled with it either so maybe we've both grown up. I've got most of the tracks on CD and vinyl but it's great to have them all under one roof and I've been raising my own personal roof dancing up a storm to this collection at home. I like the title "The Story So Far" because that implies there's more to come and, as long as he keeps singing, there are people like me who'll keep buying the records and going to the concerts.I listened to this CD and found myself wandering in and out of various parts of my life. And it's not just the music, it's also the lyrics - just listen to "I Was Only Joking" and the story it tells of a teenage Stewart. For anyone unfamiliar in the western world (is there anyone???) with Rod Stewart, this collection is a great introduction to someone with a fabulous voice who not only writes songs but who also does excellent interpretations of other material. For anyone who isn't a fan, this collection will make you realise just what a contribution he's made to music over the years and, for the die hard fans like me, this collection stands as a great tribute to someone who might not be fashionable but he never goes out of style.

I am not a life long Rod Stewart fan, this is the first of his music I have ever bought. I bought this CD having listened to it many times in work due to a colleague having the album. I never particularly liked or disliked Rod's work but in one blow this album has converted me. Like I said I have never bought any of Rod's work before so I cant say this or that should or shouldnt have been included, I can tell you though that this is pure gold.From the enormously stirring ALL FOR LOVE with Rod, Bryan Adams and Sting to the ever popular YOUNG TURKS there is nothing but greatness on here. The only song on here that I dont like is waltzing matilda which never fails to send the wrong sort of shiver down my back. Trust me people especially from someone who usually enjoys heavier rock such as Motley Crue I think it is beyond being human to dislike this album.

I can't review just yet as this is a Christmas gift for my dad, who is a huge fan of Rod Stewart, so I'm sure it will be well received

I've been enjoying listening to the CD in my car and my house. Great CD to purchase. I saw him in concert and it feels like being at the concert again.

Rod Stewart ist selbst nach so vielen Jahren immer noch ein genialer Musiker und Sänger. Seine Songs erobern noch immer die Herzen eines jeden Musikliebhabers im Sturm. Auch das Herz meiner Mutter die über dieses Geburtstagsgeschenk sehr glücklich war.
