Hallie Welch fell hard for Julian Vos at fourteen, after they almost kissed in the dark vineyards of his family’s winery. Now the prodigal hottie has returned. When Hallie is hired to revamp the gardens on the Vos estate, she wonders if she’ll finally get that smooch. But the grumpy professor isn’t the teenager she remembers and their polar opposite personalities clash spectacularly. One wine-fueled girls’ night later, Hallie can’t shake the sense that she did something reckless—and then she remembers the drunken secret admirer letter she left for Julian. Oh shit. On sabbatical from his ivy league job, Julian plans write a novel. But having Hallie gardening right outside his window is the ultimate distraction. She’s eccentric, chronically late, often literally covered in dirt—and so unbelievably beautiful, he can’t focus on anything else. Until he finds an anonymous letter sent by a woman from his past. Even as Julian wonders about this admirer, he’s sucked further into Hallie’s orbit. Like the flowers she plants all over town, Hallie is a burst of color in Julian’s gray-scale life. For a man who irons his socks and runs on tight schedules, her sunny chaotic energy makes zero sense. But there’s something so familiar about her... and her very presence is turning his world upside down. Review: Sweet story - Liked it for a fun read . Cute characters and dogs . Small town romance is best . Grumpy x sunshine Review: Not the best of Tessa Bailey - Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey, the first book in the "A Vine Mess" series, a steamy new rom-com about a starchy professor and the bubbly neighbor he clashes with at every turn... I have read almost every book by the author in the past and this one just did not work for me. I did not care about either characters - Hallie Welch or Julian Vos. It took me a while to finish this book because the entire secret admirer thing in the plot was just something that caught my attention in the start but later in the plot felt quite force-fed. However, what Tessa Bailey is known for are her steamy and hot rom-coms which did the best part of the plot as always for me and I am sure for her other readers and lovers as well. Hallie as a character was much better than Julian Vos. However, if you are someone who is new to reading adult romance as a genre, then definitely pick this up.

CUTE SMALL-TOWN ROMANCE 🌸
𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 ♡𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒔♡ 🌸Grumpy x sunshine 🌸Opposites attract 🌸Dual pov 🌸Instant attraction 🌸High school crush 🌸Small town romance 🌸Secret admirer 🌸Slow burn ♡𝒎𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔♡ This book was my third read from the author and omg, it was so CUTE! I loved the dynamic between Julian and Hallie. Julian was our grumpy type A professor who has a perfect to do list and timing for every work. Whereas, Hallie was our feisty, free – spirited gardener who lives on wine! They may be opposite to each other but they fit together perfectly. This was such an adorable romcom! I saw this book on bookstagram and I was like – I need this book right now!! I did not regret it a bit. It's an easy to digest, quick and fun read and I loved every moment I spent reading this book, what a pretty pink cover though!! Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️/5 Instagram page: @bookishreads__

It was torture to keep reading it!🥲
Although I had high expectations for this one, my expectations were dashed when I DNFed it after reading 250 pages. I don’t know how I was able to read that far. There was a lack of character development and the dialogue was very boring and cringy. There are so many unnecessary things added to this story. And I don’t like it at all! I really enjoyed Bellinger's story. It was so charming and funny that I read the first book within 2-3 days. However, I am not a fan of this one!😕

Didn’t love the main characters
*SPOILER ALERT* I love a steamy scene (and these ones are hot) but I just don’t think they feel realistic and kept popping up when I thought there was going to be some deeper character development. It bugged me that the main character just allowed the love interest to pretty much do whatever he wanted to her and she was sort of just…there. And a virgin? It just didn’t feel right. I was so excited to read this but unfortunately I’m struggling to keep reading until the end.

Could have been better?
The whole secret admirer letters could have been left out and I think the story would have been better for it. Hallie & Julian had crazy hot chemistry, I don't think that side plot was necessary. It felt like an after thought, their relationship had an organic growth to it that I would have liked to see flourished without the added drama. That said, I am very excited to read Natalie's story in Unfortunately Yours. If anything, I am MORE excited about it because it has fake dating and a marriage of convenience.

Another 'can't put it down page turner' Loved it
Another perfect escapism for my holiday read by Tessa. Emotionally raw & totally romantic. Loved the plot, every 'draw-you-in' word & how this story unfolded just like one of Hallie's flowers.

Funny
Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey is a steamy opposites-attract romantic comedy featuring Hallie Welch and Julian Vos. Hallie had a crush on Julian when she was fourteen and they almost kissed in his family’s vineyard. It’s fifteen years later and she still has forgotten him. He’s come home to St. Helena in the Napa Valley of California to write a historical fiction novel. As Hallie gardens outside his window, Julian gets distracted and Hallie gets drunk one night and leaves a secret admirer letter for him to find. Will they get their happily ever after together or is there another future for them? Hallie is the proprietor of Becca’s Blooms and is a premier gardener in the local area. She’s still reeling from her grandmother’s death and has become somewhat untethered. She’s impulsive, late, flighty, clever, immature for her age, and disorganized. Julian keeps to a rigid schedule. He’s organized, exacting, and efficient. However, he is also protective of others and quick to find solutions. This is a funny and light read with several steamy scenes and well-developed characters. Themes include romance, crushes, helping others, family, secrets, community, and much more. My main quibbles are that I wanted more tension and obstacles as well as some of the actions of Tessa were improper and unprofessional. Overall, this is an entertaining and light book, but not very memorable. I purchased a copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date was February 7, 2023.
