Its operation is so easy that even children of primary school age can knit colourful knitted tubes in a wide range of colours with great pleasure. After the thread has been guided through the lower and outer thread guide according to the instructions, simply slide it into the middle shaft of the mill. Now only the hook order must be observed during the first lap and from then on it is simply cranked. Weighted by an included weight, the finished knitted hose slides out of the knitting mill at the bottom and can be further processed when it has reached the desired length. It also didn't seem to work and by this time I was thinking this is a dud product. I had the first one for weeks and no joy. Followed the instructions to the letter, watched instructional videos online, and still it would not work, always dropped stitches, jammed etc. I even watched a video of someone using it with a power drill and going a gazillion miles an hour with it, and still mine wouldn't work using the hand crank very slowly. So I gave up on it deciding it must be a dud and bought this one. The same thing happened. I gave up on both of them. It was too late to do anything about the first one but the second one that I bought from desertcart I thought I would return since it obviously didn't work. I left it a few days and then before starting the returns process I thought I would give it one last try - and it worked!! I didn't do anything different but it worked. I even plugged it into a drill and it whizzed off really fast. Then I got the first one out and it worked too!!! So now I have two functioning knitting mills, and I have tried them with various yarns and cords and they now work every single time without fail. I didn't do anything magical to them (I read somewhere about lubricating them but I didn't try that) and they are both working perfectly. So I would say, if you are having trouble, don't give up, or at least maybe put it aside for a few days and then give it another try. I can only think that maybe it does just need to loosen up a bit. I can do that with double-pointed needles or a knitting dolly, but either way is mind-numbingly tedious. Once you've got this machine started, it's a fairly smooth process to make long lengths of i-cord. There are a few issues, though: 1. It's fiddly feeding the yarn through the tension slot at the base of the transparent top section. 2. The transparent section is glued in place. This makes starting the cord a bit fiddly. It also means that it's impossible to correct mistakes 3. The instructions say that it's only for use with yarn suitable for 3mms or 3.5mm knitting needles. This limits it to 4ply yarn. I've been using slightly stretchy double knit and it's been fine. I'll have to see if it does cope with other yarns. Over all I'm happy with the knitting mill. After a few frustrated false starts I got the hang of it. Go slowly especially for the first few rounds, making sure the latches are moving and catching as they should. I also found the working yarn attached to the ball needs to have some slack too rather than having a too tight tension. Good value for money for what I needed it to do. Instructions aren't amazing, but there is a YouTube tutorial if you search the brand.
