The Callisto Protocol Standard Edition - PS5

Callisto Protocol is a very solid action horror game that was, unfortunately, marketed as a survival horror made by the creator of Dead Space.Well, the game is not Dead Space, and is not really like Dead Space except for a few minor similarities.The game has a primary focus on melee combat, with firearms being used mostly to deal finishing blows.Graphics and sound are excellent, and the game's atmosphere is really tense and horrific. Despite all of that, I didn't find the game very frightening, which I don't really think is necessarily a bad thing. It certainly has some eerie moments, but there are far scarier games out there.The game is very linear, with only a few optional paths to explore, but it's a story driven game, so I really enjoyed it for what it is.I think a lot of people really wanted this to be Dead Space, and when they got something different they felt disappointed. I didn't really keep up with the game's marketing before it came out, so I went in without any specific expectations. I had seen the reviews and had read people's opinions on it saying it's not very good, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how much fun I was actually having with it.I played through the game twice, once on the medium difficulty, and then ng+ on the hardest difficulty, in order to get the platinum trophy, and I have also played through the DLC which was pretty decent, but a bit short.Again, the game is action horror, not survival horror. Ammo and healing items are not scarce, and the game is more tense than terrifying. But as an action game it's hard to find stuff that's wrong with it that doesn't boil down to "it's not like Dead Space".Overall, Callisto Protocol is a solid linear single player experience and is pretty good for what it is.

Solid game, entertaining and graphic combat. Story is short, simple and linear but fun.Graphics are AAA, rest of the game is not perfect, but definitely worth ~£20.Easy plat trophy if you are a collector (lookup the easy/hard-mode exploit that still works with disc version)

Jumped out of my seat on a few occasions. Graphics are great and the pacing is good. I picked this up for £15 on sale and it's worth every penny. I would not have paid full price at release.

This game isn't bad but it's not exactly good. After half an hour you will notice all the issues which hold the game backThe character moves so slowly it makes you feel like you're not quite controlling him at all. On top of this each area is separated by vents or tight walkways which lock your character into a 30 second animation while you only push forward on the controller. This happens so much I can only assume it was done to load in areas considering the high graphic fidelity. The problem with this is that it takes away from any horror elements the game has to offer and slows down the entire experience. I saw a review which counter 50+ of these vents throughout the game.The story is basic but it does keep you intrigued about the character backstories and the cause of the virus. That said, the main character is so forgettable that it nearly would have been preferable to have a silent protagonist.Also it would be a disservice to call this a horror game as this is primarily an action title with horror elements. Any jumpscares are reused to such a degree that the any horror there might have been is quickly forgotten. The giant warden mechs which supervise the prison could have been scary but these are only used twice throughout. I feel the fact they created these terrifying robot mech only to use them twice is such a missed opportunity.I've been quite harsh here but for 10-20 euro its really not the worst game I've ever played. It's a short game and honestly it looks great at times. Just don't go into this expecting the next Dead Space cause this ain't it.

Good game, takes a while to get used to controls in game, but once you master the skills , its a great game, brilliant graphics.

Not a bad game at all.
