Good 3.5 external hard drive enclosure case
Took it out of the box and it was so simple to put together. Took my hard drive with the clips to the side. Slid it into the case. Put the screws in and hooked it up and it went it powered up. It connected right to my computer. I was able to go in and format my hard drive. I would recommend it to. Everybody works great

Good, but LED and Bad Drive notification needs work!
So far so good. The installation of the HDDs is easy and the speed seems decent to me. I am using it in a RAID 1 mode. The only issue I have is that the LED is not easy to see when the front cover is on, and if there is an issue (i.e. a HDD fails, the indication is just the LED off or a special blinking pattern. So now, I just use it with the front cover off because the LED is not easy to see. Also it would be MUCH better if there were separate LEDs for DRIVE0 and DRIVE1 and if any drive had an issue, the LED would turn RED. This would make it easy to notice a drive needed to be replaced. For now, I am worried that I will not recognize that the drive will need to be replaced!!!

Works Great for Both of my Backup HDD
UPDATE: This is my second GODO 3.5 enclosure. It works as well as my previous purchase.I read where several reviewers stated that their enclosure stopped working after several months, I just hope this doesn't happen to me. Currently, the enclosure works just like a normal harddrive or flash drive; however, I also formated both external HDDs listed in the pictures . I did not want multiple operating systems interfering with normal Windows boot up/startup, which can confuse non-Geek computer users on why the enclosure is not working properly.OLD write up:Installation takes less than two minutes if you view the video in the sales description. This enclosure is built for an internal 3.5" HDD from a desktop computer and not a 2.5" internal HDD from a laptop or notebook. There is no play when properly installed. My Seagate HDD is a SATA 3.5" 1TB HDD taken from a discarded HP desktop. My second enclosure is from a WD HDD purchase and used like a "My Passport" backup would be used.Once connected, it was plug and play (turn it on). My desktop quickly recognized the HDDs and partitions. Once installed it will work on either a laptop computer or desktop using the USB cord (included). It took less than 30 minutes to transfer 500GB to one of the partitioned drives. I leave it connected to my desktop computer as a backup. It powers up when needed. As many reviewers have stated, the controls are in the back of the enclosure, but it does not interfere with my day to day productivity. I just hope these enclosure do not stop working in several months as many have said because I have built them into my daily routines. I do recommend these enclosures for anyone discarding an old computer.

Works but overheats, fan was not spinning inside it.
I had this item sent overseas, so when it arrived defective, instead of returning it I decided to "fix" it. The fan inside was not spinning. Apparently the fan header that supplies 12v was dead, so I hot wired it to the 12v voltage switch. The enclosure was still hot to the touch, so I used some power tools and cut holes in the front and back of the unit so the fan can push better air flow. There is a black plastic sticker film inside that separates the drives area from the electronics, and the fan. So what point is that to have a fan but the air can't flow past the hard drives. I removed that too.So now, the fan spins fine, there is adequate ventilation to push through the hard drives. It's still a little hot but not so bad. The functionality isn't the best. You can't format a drive IN the enclosure and then remove it and expect it to work solo in the PC, because it uses virtual block sizes or something with the crappy Jmicron chipset. There are ways to get THAT to work but it's very complicated. The other thing I didn't like was it's constantly powering down (and up) every 10 minutes or so, with no way to turn it off. The firmware is stuck on power saving mode after 10 mins. Does not matter USB power saving settings. I got around it by creating a cron job in linux (which it was connected to) to touch a file every 5 minutes. If you like it powering down every 10 minutes more power to you, but I find that something will poll the USB bus, or poll the attached hard drives, especially in Windows and constantly spin up down up down up down the drives in the enclosure and that creates a lot of wear on the drives, so be sure they have a good warranty and you're using RAID 1.I'm a little harsh on my 1 star review but to be fair I DID have to open it, mod the fan to make it work, mod the case to make it vent air, and use tricks in the OS to keep it from powering down. It's not worth any more than $30, and that's mostly for the cost of the aluminum LOL.

Good Value for the Money
The quality of the enclosure is very good. Installing the hard drive and assembling the enclosure was simple, easy, and intuitive. The drive powered up and connected to my PC without issue.Good value for the money.
