Small, neat and looks very well made. I tested it out on my workbench first and it all came together very well and very easily. Quality of the recordings are very good and setting up the camera was easy. I shall be incorporating this into a bigger security project for my car - I have the rear view camera and together it is all a breeze to put it all together.

Incorrect setup kills your car battery!
Be VERY careful when selecting the cut-off voltage and recording duration. If you get this wrong then you will very quickly end up with a battery that has significantly reduced capacity or worse - your car may fail to start!Set the voltage cut-off to the highest value you can (12.2v in my case but I still think that’s too low). Any lower will cause the battery to cycle which is REALLY BAD!!Next, I don’t recommend to keep this recording for more than 12 hours. It’s likely the low voltage limit would be reached before then but if it isn’t, this is an extra safety measure.Other than that, you should be good to go. I’m using this with a MiVue 785 dashcam and A20 rear cam. It can record for only 3 hours before the battery voltage limit is reached.Just avoid the setup pitfalls and inspect your battery every few months to ensure that this isn’t killing it.Three stars because the cut-off voltage should be AT LEAST 12.6v to avoid car battery damage. Mio should also have included appropriate warnings in the manual about how the use of this product will affect your car battery’s life.

Dash Cam Hardwire
Purchased this Hardwire kit for my MiVue Dash Cam to cover parking recording. Works a treat and after carefull reading of instructions installed it to perfection. Recommended.

Not quite what I was expecting. I incorrectly assumed that this unit would act like an extended battery power source for the camera so parking mode could be properly enabled, i.e. so when you're parked and the car experiences a bump, the camera will trigger and start recording. Instead, it is literally a permanent power supply, albeit with the facility to limit recording time to 12, 24, 36 or 48 hours and also the ability to set an auto cut off if your car battery falls below a selectable voltage. As such, my camera just sat on record permanently, which isn't what I wanted or expected. There's very little information regarding the operation of this device on the manufacturers website as far asi could see while researching, unless i was looking in the wrong places! I've given it a 4* as it's a good little unit with good options and relatively easily fitted, bit just didn't operate in the way I'd hoped.

Think before you buy
Bought Mio as it was recommended as a good quality product. Well £280 pounds to local garage for installation only to find its faulty. Awaiting refund. Might as well buy the cheap stuff because at the end adds up to the same, you just paying for a label.

Good piece of kit.
Local garage hardwired dashcam into new car. All wiring now out of sight. Nothing to dislike - all positive.

No very smart for a smartbox.
For the price, I was expecting a little more than a simple 12 to 48 hour timer. Effectively, this device starts an internal timer when the signal line power drops to zero. It turns power off to the camera when either the internal timer runs out or when the cars battery voltage drops below your set level. Disappointingly, there is no communication between this so called smart box and the dash camera itself. Such a shame as I believe this device could have been far more useful if It singled to the camera that the car's ignition had been turned off allowing the camera to immediately go into parking mode.Do I think it's worth the money. Probably not as there are cheaper options available providing the same simple functionality.
