Excellent book on how to decorate, technical and easy to follow with good illustrations, clearly written. Unfortunately the book looks second hand and pages discolours as if it is old and slightly damaged. Never mind great book! :)

It's OK, got some good tips, looks like it was printed in the 70s very dated

I'm not one for doing reviews but in this instance I'm prepared to take the time. My dad is an 'old school, retired professional decorator'. His work has always been very superior and he has even worked for quite a few famous people. Sadly, it's not going to be too long before he won't be around to ask advice. Knowing that I had so many questions to ask before that knowledge has gone, but not knowing what the questions would be - until you stumble across a situation was difficult. But then I had the idea of buying this book and running through all the decorating pages with my dad. Straight away, I could see these pages were excellent as I could clearly recognise examples and relate them to watching my dad decorate throughout many years. My dad feels that this book is very good and there was only one thing that he disagreed with and that was about how to paper a ceiling. My dad would concertina the paper and definitely would not do as the book suggested. I have no hesitation in recommending this book and I'm so glad that I stumbled across it and had the knowledge of a 'genuine expert' decorator to go through it with me. This book will become my 'bible' for decorating.

This book is very useful for the home decorating novice. It covers basic principles of design such as the effect different colours will have on a room etc. It covers the DIY aspects of how to wallpaper paint etc. It's very useful and I liked it. I would definitely recommend it to others

This book is very clear. The text, the pictures, the messages, are all clear. If you want to do some decorating at home, but just need a little confidence boost, this book will give it to you.And if you are going to do any decorating at home, then the price of this book will be lost in what you will be paying for your materials. And on that basis it is an excellent investment. Highly recommended.

Bought this because it is Haynes expecting something in-depth like their car manuals. Was hoping for more in the way of preparation eg for repairing damaged surfaces, suggestions for suitable fillings etc before decorating but this is quite basic, more suited for someone decorating for the first time.

It will be useful when needed for home decorating

Incredibly useful for re-learning or learning simple d.i.y tricks of the trade. Highly recommended. Haynes a name you can trust.
