Good enough for the purpose
Ok, if you can make your own, I would encourage anybody to do so, but if you’re lazy, like me, and not so handy with a saw and nails, then purchase one, like this. It is sturdy, the craftsmanship could be slightly better, it’s a bit rough round the edges, but, from my own experience, the robins don’t seem to have minded, I had robins nesting in mine last year, I bought this for my brother. He’s happy with it, and hopefully the robins he wants to attract will be too.

A bit splintery and rough around the edges, but the robins don't seem to mind
This box is great for robins, those much loved garden birds. Now robins like open fronted boxes, and prefer them to be less than 2 metres off the ground. Concealing the front behind vegetation will help keep the robins safe, dry and warm. Ivy or a prickly shrub is perfect. Don't worry, they'll find it, as they tend to search these places when nest building. The construction of the box is okay, but it's perhaps a little rough around the edges. The robins that moved in last March didn't seem to mind though. It's important to not disturb or go near the robins after they've moved in. They are likely to desert the best if disturbed and any sign of a deserted nest may put off others from moving in. Just leave them be and enjoy them when they're in your garden.

A classic design
This bird box is lovely and looks really quaint. The only thing I did not like was the fact that it had been stapled together. As I did not want bits falling off it after a couple of winters I reinforced all the pieces with galvanised wood screws and marine varnished the heads. Nice thing though and I expect to see some tenants in it before long.

Seems sturdy
I have Robins nesting in my Bug Box so I decided to get a proper nest box which they will hopefully use next year. When the box arrived it had a large crack all the way through one side of the roof so I returned it for a replacement. The second one does also have a crack but its on the back panel and does not look like it goes all the way through so hopefully it will be ok.

Robin's Nest Box? NO!
Box itself is fine but the wrong box was forwarded to me. My husband had requested a robin nest box.as a gift, which I ordered. This NOT what arrived! Instead of rectangular shaped opening there was a " small circular hole opening" I decided to keep the box merely because I could not manage to carry such a large box to our nearest Post Office. Result.....disappointed Christmas morning for hubby......and I paid for something I hadn't ordered! Such a shame. I may ad that this, in my view, was not the fault of the "packer" of the item since stapled to the box itself is a label clearly announcing "robin nest box" clearly wrong label on wrong box. I feel the blame lies not with the packing department but that of the supplier. I think this needs to be corrected at source. Disappointed!!!

Excellent quality Bird boxes
Excellent quality bird boxes. We looked around the garden centres and even though some were cheaper than these, they were poorly made so would not last . These are strong and very well made to last years I would imagine . Very happy with these , also they do come with a spare front part so if wanting to close it in you can allowing only a small hole for tiny birds, that is an option that comes with these boxes. Hoping to attract some widelife very soon

a little disappointed
Unfortunately my box has a large chip in the wood on the roof. Very obvious to the eye but too expensive to send back!! Not very impressed as it is a gift.
