works!
I've been having a job finding any shops that sell these in the UK. Finally found here on amazon. Thought I'd add a review since these are so effective at keeping mozzies out. It says to burn outside - but I have to admit, after trying lots of things for my bedroom (where I've been getting bitten to pieces every summer!) I burn these indoors, in my bedroom and by the window. I know it says to burn outside - but I had to find something because I seem to be getting a bad reaction to the bites this year and it disrupts a good nights sleep. These things work better than anything else I have tried. I've tried the plug ins, and I think they work ok, but I have trouble finding a plug in my room that I can use - even so, when I did use them, I still had some mozzies. These coils though, when I burn them in the holder by my window, I seem to have a mosquito free zone and a good nights sleep. I recommend them. UPDATE: Oct 2012.. Although I have no problem with the smoke (I only need to burn a few inches of a coil, not much is needed) we discovered that my partner couldn't handle it.. So, SOME people might have sensitivity to the smoke. These things are designed for using outside, where they work equally well btw.. but burning inside means putting them right next to a cracked/open window. Probably shouldn't put this here, but the 'Jungle formula plug in's' are now my ultimate 1st choice after trying lots of things.. You'll need an adapter plug for them, they have the European 2 prong plug - there are UK to EU adapters for a few quid here on amazon.. :) (They're very good & no smoke or smell)

Lifesystems mosquito coils- green
I love anything that helps to keep mozzies/midges and any flying bugs at bay, these have a slight citronella smell and are slightly perfumy with the added bonus of some insecticide mixed in but are only for OUTDOOR use and should not be used indoors unlike some of the other citronella coils, it comes with 2 metal stands that you slot into the slot at the centre of the coil that is after you very delicately separate the 2 coils apart even if you are gentle the coils are fragile and do break very easily. a whole coil can burn for up to 8 hours, I personally would invest in a coil burning tin or use one that comes with another type of citronella coil that you can buy on Amazon as the spikes to me are basic and look unstable and there is nothing to collect the hot falling ash.

Better than expected
I really did not want to like this product. I hate mossies and night critters and am a firm believer it deet and original Mossie coils. So these pressed cardboard, low odour 'eco' could turn up and I'm prepping for a night of bites and s scratching... Truth is, I don't know if these work or not, all I can say is that when one of these was smouldering through the night, insects were far less of a nuisance. An added bonus is that they don't smell as bad as green Mossie coils and, because they are more like cardboard, they don't break when you separate them. I'm down to the last 3 coils and still have 5 weeks to go in a high malaria risk area... A field comparison with green coils is inevitable.

Waste of money
These can be really quite dangerous, the little stand they come with is very flimsy and the coil goes out all the time so you have to relight it.

These work!
I've been searching for a while to find these as a friend described something similar that she used in India that worked. My garden backs onto a wood, right next to our patio. At dusk this was a no go zone for me as mosquito's just love me and leave me with bites that tend to swell and last for weeks. Now I tend to go and light 3 of these about 20-30 mins before I head up there to enjoy our lovely warm evenings. The mossie's definitely do not like them, I might see the odd one, but I've not been bitten whilst these are burning. I even like the smell. I would recommend placing them on perhaps a small saucer size dish because as the coils burn down and turn to ash it drops off and makes it easier to keep clean. Also take care when separating the coils are they tend to snap, take it nice and slow. I would definitely recommend.

Perfect product - once youve learned the knack of separation
There are 10 coils in a pack. Coming "joined" as concentric twos. the trick is to identify where the actual "joins are" - usually two on outer rings and two nearer centre. break these carefully - and then gently push every other ring. once they start to release - like your fingers when "interlocked" you are on the right track. With a little patience - can get all 5 pairs separated with no breakages. the pack comes with 2 metal stands. We went to the gambia - used these- even when reading late night on balcony - and had nil bites between 3 of us over that period. AND there were miossies about - as our cleaner was recovering from malaria that week! they work - be patient - then a must take in such at risk areas.

Smells like burning damp cardboard ๐
Might work for keeping biting insects off, but the smell is quite unpleasant - smells like burning damp cardboard or newspaper. Coincidentally, the coils seem to be made of some kind of pressed paper product. Other similar products I have used didn't smell this bad. Utilitarian, no good for making your BBQ pleasant for guests, but might save you from getting malaria if you use it by your tent in the jungle. Choose something else if you're looking for a pleasant ambience.
