Dreams of Awakening: Lucid Dreaming And Mindfulness Of Dream And Sleep

Wow!
Dreams of Awakening is an absolutely incredible book, and I have found it to be life changing. I first read it around four years ago at the recommendation of a friend and my mind was blown! For the past year I have actively been applying the techniques and incorporating a mindful dream practice into my life, with amazing results, including several powerful Lucid Dreams and a relationship with my unconscious that I had no idea was possible. The knock-on effect this is having on my mental health and wellbeing, and relationships with myself and others has been unimaginable. It does take work and effort but it is so worth it.Charlie’s energy and enthusiasm is contagious. Throughout the book he comes across as genuine, honest and encouraging, and his passion shines through in his writing. I find his anecdotes and examples from his experiences and dreaming practices helpful and inspiring. Furthermore, the sincerity in which he writes helps me feel supported in my own exploration of this fascinating subject. As an aside, I have been fortunate in attending a dream retreat and a workshop led by Charlie, confirming the above qualities (and more) in his capacity as a writer, teacher and human being… I highly recommend going to hear him speak if you can!!What I especially love about this book in particular, is that it places Lucid Dreaming within the bigger context of dream and sleep, interwoven throughout with a history of dream practice, primarily focused around Tibetan Buddhism, while also bringing in neurology and psychotherapy elements too. This makes for a fascinating read that has nurtured a deep respect for sleep and an understanding that, rather than dream control, a Lucid Dream is a powerful union between conscious awareness and the unconscious mind, enabling the co-creation of incredibly nourishing experiences that are just out of this world!I had never heard of Lucid Dreaming before I read this book. The first time I read about it, the concept was very hard to believe. Having experienced it first hand, through Charlie’s helpful guidance, I look around at this wakeful reality with new eyes! This book has become a well-thumbed go to resource, and I’m on my fourth time of reading it. There has been something new to take away each time, as I’m sure will continue to be the case.A final aspect that has really stuck in my mind is that how, by engaging in these practices, we bring more kindness into this world, toward ourselves and others, as interacting with a dreamscape created by our minds helps us see through the illusions and projections of our waking state. I am really starting to experience and understand this. It is profound, and certainly not to be taken lightly – the difference this makes in a society that so desperately needs a bit more love, acceptance and tolerance is huge, and an incredible gift to be contributing.

Waiting for the lucid dreams................................................
After a very bad year in my life I have been undergoing a huge change and reading and therapy have been a big part of it. I have completely transformed my way of thinking and behaving which at almost 58 is not a simple thing to achieve, or better… as soon as you discover that your life could be a lot better if only you changed your outlook on life and the way you see the world and yourself (not who you are but the way you handle your life) it is not difficult anymore! I have no idea how I came across the subject of lucid dreaming but it was surely while doing some research on books on spirituality. I have to confess that I had never heard of such dreams although many people I now talk to have heard of them and some even experienced lucid dreams. The concept intrigued me and this book by Charlie Morley seemed the right one for a first approach on the subject. The book is written from the heart and one feels the passion Charlie has for the subject. Because he is so enthusiastic you find yourself reading more and more and doing all the exercises he proposes. Have I managed to have any lucid dream yet? No, so far I am having trouble even remembering my dreams but that might be because I am on anti-depressants. Funny enough the first few nights, while reading the book, I did dream a lot and my dream diary got quite full but then they somehow dried out. I am sleeping much better though… and recently I had a dream in which I was washing some guys curly hair and the hair felt very real, like I could really feel the texture? Maybe that was the start of a lucid dream. The day before I got the book I also did something I have done in the past, which is starting to wake up and then choosing to go back to the same dream. Maybe I was already being inspired by the fact that I had ordered a book on the subject. Other than that I have to say that I have never been interested in the meaning of dreams and was therefore happy that Charlie doesn’t think that decoding the dreams is something one should engage in. I have also ordered his CD but I haven’t had the time to listen to it yet. Now that I have got interested in lucid dreams I won’t stop training until I have managed to have some and once I taste what it is to become lucid in a dream I am sure that I will never go back to my old, uneventful nights. I have to say that being quite a creative person I have always been able to at least remember bits of my dreams and I used to live a second life during the night. But this book is more than a just a book about the theory and practice behind lucid dreaming, it is also very informative as far as sleep and dreaming in general goes.

Wake Up and Get This One Right Away
After reading Roberts Waggoner's excellent book "Lucid Dreaming" and "A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming" by Tucillo, Zeizel and Peisel" I let a few years go by without putting anything into practice. By the way both books are recommended. Then I had a few medium-lucidity lucid dreams.... I recognized I was dreaming but couldn't change the dream landscape. Now I feel the urge to get more serious and after a long perusal period, I settled on this book and a decision to re-read the first two mentioned. This is an excellent book if you are looking for a more sensible and deeper spiritual perspective on LD. Morley is a persuasive writer who doesn't bore with long-winded filler prose and old tired techniques you can find anywhere online (yawn). You can almost feel his power, integrity, sage wisdom and good nature streaming through the pages. I am still in the process of preparing myself for greater lucidity and I am certain that with his good vibrations, experience and advice I will make friends with my unconscious and establish a relationship that is strong enough to evoke high lucidity conscious dreams. I have no hesitation in recommending this text as one any serious Oneironaut should have next to the bed.

Great book
Fantastic book. I totally recommended it. I read it before and decided that it could be a good gift for my boyfriend, And indeed it would be also a gift for myself as well, as I would like to read it again and again to go further into the lucid dreaming techniques of meditation. About the shipment, the book was as expected and delivered very fast. Thanks!
