The complete fifth season(Slim Version) of the HBO medieval fantasy drama based on the bestselling novel series 'A Song of Ice and Fire' by George R.R. Martin. The programme follows the battle between the Starks and the other noble families of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros to gain control of the Iron Throne. In this season, Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) grieve over the loss of their father, Arya (Maisie Williams) becomes an apprentice to Jaqen H'ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) and Jon (Kit Harington) is promoted to Lord Commander. The episodes are: 'The Wars to Come', 'The House of Black and White', 'High Sparrow', 'Sons of the Happy', 'Kill the Boy', 'Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken', 'The Gift', 'Hardhome', 'The Dance of Dragons' and 'Mother's Mercy'. Review: Sparrows and harpies - Another year, another box set for the latest season of fantasy drama Game of Thrones. The usual five disc set contains all ten episodes of the show's fifth season. All of them run between fifty to fifty five minutes [approx]. This season is not a jumping on point. New viewers should start with season one. Be advised the story is starting to diverge even more from the books on which the series is based, so book readers won't find the most faithful adaptation ever. And may get a few surprises also. Picking up from the end of season four, various new challenges await the characters. Jon has new responsibilities and very hard choices. Stannis has to face up to his destiny. Arya starts a new life, but it requires her to let go of the old. Cersei and Jaime have to face up to life without their father. Cersei makes a deal in order to finally deal with Margery. Without being prepared for the consequences. Jaime goes on a tricky mission to Dorne. Where new character Prince Doran Martell has to balance playing the Game of Thrones with the desires of his relatives, who now hate Lannisters even more than before. New challenges await Tyrion as he flees east. And a new role awaits. If he can get to it. Brienne is still looking for Sansa. Who finds what the cost of trusting Littlefinger is. Dany is still messing about in Meereen rathen than getting her throne back. The city is getting very tricky to keep a hold on. There's no appearance in this entire season from Bran and Hodor. [Hodor!]. It's a tricky season to appraise. Some of them have taken an episode or two to get going. But this one does from the off, and it has a lot of pace. But it's a transitional one, as it exists to set up a lot of things and get characters to certain points. The book it is adapted from has been accused of not really going anywhere. As ever you will get episodes or two without all the characters appearing. But in the grand scheme of the big story, it's clearly all necessary. It is though not a nice season at times, with some not very nice things happening to certain characters that are harder to watch than anything we've seen before. Some scenes do place with subtitles. That can't be turned off. But it is very watchable. And it contains to of the most of the incredible battle scenes you will ever see on the small screen. And Dorne is filmed in one of the most stunning locations the show has ever used. So like you won't watch it? Not a season that will perhaps be voted as the best of them, but a strong and necessary one, with lots to catch the eye and stick in the mind. Plus certain cliffhangers ensure you will be back for year six. The dvd's have the following language and subtitle options: Languages: English, French, Castilian, German. Subtitles: English, French, Castilian, German, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Greek, Herbew, Portugese, Norwegian, Romanian, Swedish, Turkish. Extras: Twelve audio commentaries with cast and crew, spread across the episodes. New characters new locations: seven minutes about the new characters and setting of the season. A pretty good watch. Especially for the Dorne bits. The real story behind Game of Thrones: A two part documentary. Seventeen and twenty one minutes respectively. All about the historical parallels between the show and real history, especially the Wars of the Roses. These two are absolutely fascinating and totally absorbing viewing that will teach you a few things. [The above two features are on disc four, even though the inlay booklet says disc five.] On disc five: Four deleted scenes. Which can be watched individually or all in a row. If the latter they run for seven minutes in total. They're all character moments which don't serve the plot but are good as the former. The third is actually an extended one as it does go on well into what was seen in the actual episode. And two excellent production documentaries, both of which run thirty minutes: A day in the life. One day for the production of the show. How they do that across three locations in different continents. Anatomy of an episode: mother's mercy. A break down of the season finale. More of an overview than a production documentary, but some very good stuff when it does the latter. These two and the history documentary are superb viewing, and another reason why the dvd as a whole rates five stars. Review: And some thought this Season was bad...! - Admittedly, this Season was noticeably inferior to the first four that preceded it, but then again, what isn’t? So much had happened, especially from the end of the previous two, that this one felt a bit like a reprieve or a chance to collect your thoughts. Of course, this all helped make Season 6 one of the best seasons of GOT and up there with anything that’s ever been on the box...and then 7 and 8...’happened’...anyways. 5 still boasts perennial fan favourite ‘Hardhome’ and arguably the most cloak and daggers and clandestine plotting since the first season as opposed to the blockbuster season 3 and 4. The whole ‘Sparrow’ ark does tend to drag, and although Jonathon Pryce is excellently pompous in the role, the character amounts to little more than a philosophical bore. At second viewing, there is actually very little to dislike here barring this being the end of Tyrion as a great TV show character, it’s actually a very good collection stand alone and there are many iconic moments and excellent episodes and tension. The walk of ‘SHAME!’, the aforementioned ‘Hardhome,’ arguably Ramsay’s best (or worst) villany, the sojourn to Dorne, the dragons...all great! Again, the weakest from 1 - 6, but necessarily weaker to aid Season 6, until they...kind of forgot they had the best TV show ever in the palm of their hands...

Another great season.
Another great season from this TV show. It has been consistently gripping and exciting for 5 years now and shows no sign of stopping. We have finally got to a place where parts of the story are diverging wildly from the books, and I for one find this exciting as I do not know what will happen. No spoilers here but things occur in this season that I was not expecting and I cannot wait to see what happens now the show runners are clear of the books. Every episode looks amazing again, and the lead performances are all very good indeed. There is of course all the violence and nudity that has become the trademark of the series but it fits the environment and is used well to further the plot.
