Conté à ParisSketching Pencil - Sanguine (Pack of 6),White

Very good for portrait, soft and smooth to use. They are also good for integrating into my pastel pictures for more detail of simply cos they have the right tone to introduce in a particular piece. Love them.

Ive had a few brands of these charcoal pencils and find these to be the best. They are highly pigmented and actually come out the colours there meant to be strongly, opposed to other brands where they seem to come out too dark and appear black or grey despite their intended colours.They are also appealing to look at with the packaging and the pencils themselves are slightly chunky with a high quality finish.I will be using this brand again for future purchases. Wekk worth it.

Beautiful drawing pencils

I bought these with my fingers crossed as my last purchase of Conte pencils was disappointing- the leads were brittle, gritty and broke out of the casing instead of sharpening. However these were fine and didn't have any of the aforementioned faults. I was able to get my preferred long point easily with a knife and these are the quality I expect from Conte. This was a relief.I had been intrigued by the two extra colours of Sanguine in this set I had never tried before -the XVIIIe and Medicis - which turned out to be a slightly more Ruby toned red chalk and one that I would describe more as a reddish sepia than a Sanguine. I'm looking forward to trying these out properly as I intend to warm up first thing by copying Old Masters and the trois crayons technique is great for this. (You focus on the important things- light, medium and dark tones and these pencils aren't conducive to fiddling about with details or much erasure. )The packaging was effective and meant the leads hadn't been shattered en route, which sometimes has happened to me when buying online. I think this would be a good set for life drawing. It was good value and I recommend it.

Does a nice job on my canvases

I wanted to see what the different types of pencils do (carbon, pierre noire, graphite, charcoal) so this is a great set for experimentation - and oh boy, they are radically different! The cylindrical and slightly chubby shaft is very comfortable.

The product description of this set isn't what's in the photo or what you get in the blister pack. There's no sanguine pencil or sepia. You get 2 graphite, a charcoal, a white, a Carbone pencil and Pierre Noire. The Pierre Noire is a lovely rich blackest black pencil, looks a shade darker than the charcoal pencil in this set. There's no shine off this like black like we get with soft dark B leads in graphite. The Carbone pencil has a dark and strong lead I noticed a very slight sheen off heavier application, though nowhere as much as with graphite. The white has a very hard lead, it lightens, used over other pencil work but it isn't a perfect opaque white, it looks slightly transparent

Not easy to sharpen but do work well.
