A readable book on Baba Bholenath!
Seven Secrets of Shiva is a concise book about Lord Shiva and the stories and metaphors related to him. It also contains tales related to his family, i.e., Goddess Shakti, Lord Ganesha, and Kartikeya. The language of the book is easy to read. It also contains several pictures of Lord Shiva in his various forms. I strongly recommend this book on Bholenath to not only his devotees but also to those who are eager to learn about the eternal religion, i.e., Hinduism. The book is divided into the following seven chapters:• Lingeshwara's Secret• Bhairava's Secret• Shankara's Secret• Bholenath's Secret• Ganesha's Secret• Murugan's Secret• Nataraja's Secret

Busting The Myths Of Symbols
Devdutta Pattanaik's Seven Secrets Of Shiva unfolds the deeper meanings of the symbols associated with the sage-like Shiva, the Tapasvin. The fear and insecurity which lead us to take refuge in Maya which is impermanent and de-constructable. The transience of Prakriti or Nature does not let humans outgrow their fears, rather escalates them. Only by sitting still and spectating the fuel-less wheel of fire or Prakriti can we comprehend the cyclic order of creation, decay, destruction and rebirth. Devdutt Pattanaik's book is an incisive treatise on what exactly the swarupa of Shiva or the imagery of Shiva in its Mystique variants denote. A must read.

Excellent Read!
Written in a simple and conversational style by Devdutt Pattnaik and presented on top-notch paper quality this book has been accompanying me for the past few days, unraveling every conceivable detail a novice (me) may seek about Lord Shiva! What's not to love? The 7 Secrets of Shiva is the first huge step that has surely kindled my curiosity to know so much more, because it explains the stories, and symbolisms that we have heard while growing up, but never had anyone explain to us in great detail. It's been a delightful journey so far, and though a few pages remain, I'm elated to have discovered this gem. Actually, more grateful than elated.

Thought provoking
Interesting but certain texts seem corrupted or misunderstood. Modern inferences at places should have been dealt better. I advise readers to read authentic text, in Sanskrit.

Good read...Changes your prespective and makes you think
Nice read...This is the first book of it's kind that helped me understand the soul of pauranic symbols and Katha...some will stimulate the mind and make you admire and appreciate the underlying thought process, while few may seem like deliberate attempt to draw meaningfull insight of events that does not seem to demonstrate sufficient depth. It feels like Puranic kathas have also evolved with time and though, intially it reflected deeper sense and meaning, later parts were added to which scholars have tried to add meaning...(I am not subject matter expert and may be completely wrong in my inference)But overall a very good read...Many thanks to Devdutt Patnaik for deciphering the misundertood concepts for a layman like us

Another brilliant book by the Legend!
This is the second book of Shri Devdutt Patnaik that I am reading, after My Gita. The book is so deeply into identifyingShiva, that one can just not stop reading once it begins. It answers almost all the questions on Shiva. Concepts of Prakriti, Purusha, Brahma, Brahmanda, Bhairava, Rudraksha, Linga, all have been detailed in such spectacular manner that you're bound to fall in love with the book, and eventually, Shiva.Left side of the book is full of pictures along with details of what it depicts, whereas right side of the book is where the writings/secrets continue.Thank you for writing this book. Loved it. :)

Splendid intro to Lord Shiva.
Every sentence provokes though! Really helped me understand the concepts of maya, culture vs nature, and that Shiva is full of empathy and kindness. Destroyer of fear, deconstructor of our imagined realities. Great insight into Parvati as Shakti and also as Durga, Kali, and Ganga. The great Goddess. Also loved the discussion of Ganesha and Kartikeya. Dr Pattanaik is wonderfully adept with words and includes many photographs of art to interpret for fuller understanding. Worth reading multiple times!

The Mythology behind Shiva
This book was my introduction to Devdutt Pattanaik. He has helped me understand Shiva and for that I am most grateful. His writing is beautiful and shows deep understanding into this subject. I have become a disciple of his and now addicted to elegant style by reading more of his great works. I am indebted to him for clearing my mind of confusion regarding Indian Mythology and look forward to the next book.

The concepts of Shiva is well explained
A book which takes you to a new perspective. Stories well narrated and logic well explained. Could have helped if the actual Devanagari scripts was used for the Sanskrit words, as an option.
