will this play multiregion dvds?

It plays region 2 and my region 4 dvds fine too.

does this have the red-and-white sockets (sorry I'm not a techie!) to connect audio through an amplifier to go to separate speakers please? cheers!

Yes, Red and White L/R Audio and Yellow Line Out Video and Orange Digital Out Coaxial. I've got it attached to my daughter's TV using HDMI, great wee DVD player.

What do I need to connect it to my TV? Is it included in the box or do I need to buy separately?

You need to have an available HDMI socket on your TV and you need to buy a an HDMI cable from Amazon also to connect the two. You only need an inexpensive one - see Amazon basics. After that it is just plug and play - after you have selected the HDMI outlet as the source from your TV controler.

Very good DVD player, one minor problem which won't affect most!

This is good value, works well providing much better quality and ease of use than a really cheap one I bought.My minor problem is with this or with my new TV stand, depending on how you look at it. The power cable does not detach. The plug is too large to pass through the cable management hole in the stand. Hence I have to stand it beside the TV or enlarge the hole myself which is a minor irritation. Nonetheless, I am pleased with it!

BEST DVD PLAYER EVER!!

Had this DVD player for nearly a year now. It's on most days for a minimum of 12hrs a day. Never had an issue and it's still working perfectly!! Set up is really easy, just plug it in the wall and then plug the HDMI in. Can use controller or the DVD player itself. Playback is great as it members where you were. Just a shame it doesn't play different region DVDs.Just about to buy my second for a different room in my home

An excellent cheap CD transport with digital output via coax and it does DVDs as well!

I bought this DVD player because I don't own a CD player, but I have rediscovered my love of HiFi, and so I use this as a CD transport via the coax digital output, to an external DAC. For that purpose it works fine and will save you gazillions of pounds over a posh CD player. If you don't know what all that means, you need an external digital analogue converter to be able to hear the the CD music. This DVD player can play normal CDs full quality to a digital output using an audio coax cable. I am using a Topping DX3 Pro+ DAC headphone amp. Or listen through your telly. As a DVD player its a bit primitive, but works. If you are buying for old DVDs you found in the loft it works just fine.

A useful thing to have at the price if you need something to play DVD's and CD's

It maximises DVD picture quality, it has audio/RCA connections to connect to an amplifier unlike most new models now and it's quiet when it's operating unlike the scart-connected Sony DVD player (which was the same price) i've been using for a couple of years...The sound quality when playing a CD isn't quite top notch hi-fi but is good enough for £40, a good stopgap player.
