Kensington N17 Laptop Lock - Keyed

Bought a lot of these for me and my team, very happy with them. Everybody likes them and find them easy to pack up, carry and use.

Be careful of the key, it is a bit pointy and sharp, and the locking and unlocking can get fiddly if you’re not the best at that kind of thing or have poor sight. Once put on though, nobody is taking you laptop off that cafe table, and the coil design makes it small enough to fit in any bag or even your trouser pocket.

The packaging for this is a strong slim cardboard box that protects the item perfectly. Note that this cable is designed only for specific Dell laptops/tablets with a wedge lock slot, so check compatibility on the Dell website. This is a simple keyed lock that is simple to set up. The lock is a strong design and will survive any normal attempt to break it, short of industrial equipment. The much more likely target is the cable itself, which is thin and easy to remove with bolt cutters. Therefore this is not going to be useful anywhere that someone can carry that tool in and do the business unnoticed. I would certainly not secure a high-value (i.e. £500+) product with this sort of cable. The current price of only £22 is not too high, which makes a change for Kensington products. I would pay a maximum of £25 for this cable. Overall this is a good quality simple lock for securing low-value/old laptops.

This product is very well made and looks very secure. Will deter casual attempts to remove unless the thief has bolt-cutters or a saw to cut through the table it is attached to!

Ease of use

This is a tough steel cable with two keyed locks which means you can secure two devices at the same time. It's surprisingly light which is a big bonus. However, it does not seem to fit my Dell laptop. No matter how much I try, it does not seem to lock my laptop. I don't know if I have a faulty item or if it's compatible with just some Dell models (mine is three years old so perhaps it's too old a model?). I can't fault the quality but for me it's useless (at least for now - I still hope I can use it when I eventually replace my laptop).

Company required me to use a cable lock with my work laptop, picked this one due to it using a key and having a relatively slim profile. Was a little intimidated by some of the reviews here, but if you read the manual / know to unlock it before trying to pop it in the hole, there's not much that can go wrong. Cable is perhaps a bit overly robust, but that's not really anything to complain about for a security device.

Dass das Schloß nur gegen das Mal-eben-Wegtragen hilft, ist natürlich klar. Gegen Gewalt ist das nicht ausreichend. Das Schloß ist nicht gerade vertrauenerweckend, was die Langlebigkeit anbelangt. Kleiner Schlüssel, bei dem man schon fummeln muß, bis er richtig einrastet. Die waren früher robuster ausgelegt und hatten oft noch einen Schutzring aus Gummi zum Verhindern von Kratzern.

When I changed laptops I had no idea that all tie down slots were not the same size. Got a quick education and ordered this one that fit perfectly.
