I was impressed
Very well written and informative. I thought this book might be a waste of time since I'm not new to the college process, but it wasn't. The book was actually hard to put down.

A great start to the process
I love the concise overview at the beginning of the book. For me, it cuts to the chase my most burning questions, a chapter on "FAQ", if you will.Check it out.

Pretty comprehensive but prejudiced
Despite having read more than a dozen college admission books, the 'Fiske Guide to Getting Into the Right College' still had a lot to offer in terms of unique content (hence the 2 stars). While appreciating this fact, the unmistakable biases of the authors show through in several places. Sample the choice of words used while describing different categories below:"The alumni office will lobby for the son of their recent million-dollar donor; the football coach will fight for the three hundred-pound noseguard he covets; the multicultural affairs coalition will be rioting in the streets if the number of minority students goes down."Lobby, fight and riot in the streets - these word choices, not spur of moment extempore speech but carefully considered, edited, reviewed, and published word choices, perfectly encapsulate their unmistakeable biases towards certain groups. In a way, it offers a view into the mindset that some people possess on US campuses, towards those that do not belong to the majority demographic.
