Especially for those who feel nervous in approaching God in prayer, and want to learn what Spurgeon calls the art of prayer...
At first this small paperback, with it's small print, seems unassuming and could easily be overlooked when one's looking for reading material on prayer. However, do not let its appearance fool you. Spurgeon does an inspiring job in helping the average person feel that God is very much interested in their prayers. Spurgeon speaks particularly to those who feel insignificant or outcast, and unsure about approaching such a great God as we serve. We may wonder if God is truly interested in our prayers, what we need or what we're concerned about, but Spurgeon reassures us that God is very much interested, and Jesus, even more so. Spurgeon reassures us that what we pray for WILL be done, if we but understand that when Jesus said, "I say unto you..." that He was telling us we have His reassurance that prayers are answered. He, who sits at the right hand of God intercedes on our behalf. What a partner to have in prayer! Spurgeon reminds us that if our prayers are not selfish or vindictive, then as a child of God we have every right to approach God with our prayers and need not come into His presence with lowly demeanor nor wobbly knees. He describes in very good detail the verse that says, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you." Spurgeon describes to us what he calls the art of praying. It's not a formula or some type of manipulation he teaches us, but a teaching taken straight from Jesus' own words on how we ought to pray. I also have several prayer books by E.M Bounds, who is also an oustanding writer on the subject of prayer. However, I believe that this book would be a great beginner for someone who is unsure of themselves when it comes to whether God's paying attention to their prayers and helps one learn what prayer is really about. After having this wonderful teaching under your belt, you can confidently go on and read books on prayer by E.M Bounds because Mr. Spurgeon has laid a very important foundation for you, in prayer, that will follow you all the days of your lives. This is definitely an annointed book! Spurgeon quickly picks that person up who feels distant from God, helps them to see the importance of their prayers, and sets them on the proper path of confidently approaching God so they can do mighty things through their prayers!

Great for all Christians
My pastor recommended this book to me and I absolutely love it! I cried when I read the first chapter and I prayed like I have never prayed before and poured out my heart to God and Iโm seeing God work in those prayers! This book is so easy to read and so helpful for any Christian at any stage. Iโm so thankful that this book was published and recommended to me because itโs truly inspiring.

Great resource
Small print makes it a bit hard to concentrate. But it is very excellent in bringing The Power of Prayer knowledge of the text for all readers. Charles Spurgeon is a very good author and brings the information to light.

Fabulous
Incredible like gem on prayer. His chapter called "pleading" is worth the price of the book. If you like to pray, or your going through the worst and you need to cut thru the red tape and get before His throne and in His presence, this may be helpful. Blessings Stv

Transforming, solid in doctrines
The gospel truth of free grace is easily snapped up by our sinful nature to say it demands nothing of us even after we have been โconvertedโ. Grace and work in our minds tend to go loggerheads at one another; it needs not be. In fact in Christian life, they go hand in hand. True faith produces work; there can be no turning, no change of mind in true repentance when we observe no transformation in oneโs life. Christian walk is not produced by our passivity. Going to church and being spoon fed is really not enough. Something must be driven by our heartโs deepest desire. Nothing can compare with Godโs shaping and moulding hand working through our actively seeking Him through studying His word and prayer. If you donโt do either in your own private time, you know very little about Christian life and walk. Godโs Word and prayer go hand in hand as prayer is pleading with God that He will fulfil His will, which is revealed in His Word, for His mercy and truth only. We canโt pray His will if we do not know it through His Word. Spurgeon was a pastor and he knew how important to his flock to pray. Ultimately he is right in saying that do not wait till we know how to pray to start praying; just pray even when we think we donโt know how to pray. Spurgeon points out that we can teach others to say a prayer but we canโt teach them to pray. Hmmmโฆ interesting. What is prayer then? It is not mere words โTrue prayer is the trading of the heart with God.โ โIf the prayer proceeds from your very heartโฆ there is a secret work of the Spirit of God going on within you that is teaching you to pray.โ (From the chapter entitled the Ravenโs cry.) When we learn to do something, it is natural for us to look at techniques, but Spurgeon reminds us that only the Holy Spirit can teach us how to pray; it is the result of the work of grace in our hearts. Therefore I find these guidelines helpful on what improvements we should look for in our prayer: โPrayers need not be fancy. I believe God abhors fancy prayers. When we pray, the simpler our prayers are, the better.โ (From Guaranteed to Succeed.) โTo Him, your eloquence and oratory will be less than nothing and vanity. You are before the Lord; let your words be few, but let your heart be fervent.โ โAsk for what you need now, and, as a rule, keep to present need.โ (From the chapter entitled Order and Arguments in Prayer.) What is new to me is that Spurgeon teaches us that prayer is full of reasons: โMere prayer sayers, who do not pray at all, forget to argue with God; however, those who would prevail bring forth their reasons and their strong arguments, and they debate the question with the Lord.โ (From the chapter on Pleading.) This point when practised will transform prayer life with much more engagement, application of Godโs word and energy, which in turn will transform our being. Job 23:3-4 is worth remembering, so is Isaiah 1:18. Prayer is no trifle. Bold we approach the throne of grace but must be with the right attitude: also โMy friends, I am afraid we do not bow as we should before the Eternal Majesty; but from now on, let us ask the Spirit of God to put us in a right attitude, so that every one of our prayers may be a reverential approach to the Infinite Majesty above.โ Amen to that. Also Christ, our High Priest in His intercessory ministry always prays alongside us: โthe interposition of the Lord Jesus Christ is essential to acceptable prayer.โ โThe Lord High Chamberlain of the palace above, our Lord Jesus Christ, takes care to alter and amend every prayer before He presents it, and He makes the prayer perfect with His perfection and prevailing with His own merits. God looks upon the prayer as presented through Christ, and He forgives all of its own inherent faultiness.โ (From chapter on The Throne of Grace.) What are you waiting for? Pick up the book while you start praying.

The Power of Prayer in a Believer's life
The Power of Prayer in a Believer's life is the Word of God planted in our heart, and the Holy Spirit who brings it to our mind as needed for prayer and other situations we are in. This book addresses condition of prayer, hindrances to prayer, how and why God answers prayer and that prayer is commanded, types of prayer, and more. Another good book.
