Sadly not as good
We love the first three, I wouldn't recommend this one. My daughter found it very upsetting that Mary was in fact not back at all and that these stories somehow took place during the time of the first three books. Sadly it feels like it was a book of perhaps rejected chapters or stories that didn't fit here nor there. If you love Mary Poppins its better to leave off before this book. Another reviewer said it best, "...When Mary Poppins opened the door at the end of the third book in the delightful eponymous series, I remember being devastated as a little girl at the thought that, unlike the ending of the first two books, this time she was gone for good. So I was delighted beyond words when P. L. Travers penned the fourth book, "Mary Poppins in the Park". Hooray, she's back! Alas, no, she isn't. In a preface before the book actually begins, Travers pulled a monstrous cheat and said that the stories contained therein took place during Mary Poppins' first, second, and last sojourns with the Banks family and observes that, obviously, she can't keep leaving and reappearing indefinitely. Sooner or later, enough is enough."

Not A Fourth Book...More Like *DELETED* Scenes From Other *POPPINS* Books.
I enjoyed MARY POPPINS IN THE PARK, but this book is more like an "extras" rather than a complete book. There are a collection of stories and magical happenings that surround Mary Poppins and the Banks kids, and of course they all take place in the park. The stories and illustrations are still charming and I really like that in the beginning of the book there's a two-page spread showing an illustrative map of Cherry Tree Lane, the park, and the various locations that were used in the stories including Number 17, Miss Lark's house and Admiral Boom's, and Neleus the statue. And there's a personal note from author P.L. Travers that explains this book.Another good book for bedtime stories.

Love all Mary Poppins!
I admit it, I am an adult who loves Mary Poppins. And this books did not disappoint me. Miss Travers active imagination when her magoal world will collide with residents of Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Of course, all of the events in this book happens in the park that they visit just about every day. I would say that the park is a wonderful place to be.

Childhood Revisited
I grew up with Mary Poppins long before Julie Andrews slid up the bannister. My sisters and I often slid down and tried to slide up, but with no success. Mary Poppins is magical and fun, her adventures always make me happy. Sometimes you just want books that are easy, happy, and make those life lessons sweeter. Escape from the real world for a while and join Mary Poppins, Jane and Michael and the Dirty Rascal, the Queen's cat, and the sun and planets.

Masterful!
Intrigued by Disney's "Saving Mr. Banks" we both read the original Mary Poppins books and were enthralled. With all respect to Walt Disney, the Travers character is right, the original Mary7 Poppins has more depth than the film portrayal. The stories are masterful and would be enjoyed by any age.

Classic Mary Poppins
First this is not the Mary poppins of Disney films, she has a lot more bite to her. But all the same it was very nice to read it again after a space of a great many years.

Mary Poppins, a distraction from our so called normal world.
I enjoy reading Mary Poppins. I had no idea there were so many books as I only ever watched the original film that misses so much.
