Mauled: Lessons Learned from a Grizzly Bear Attack

After hearing Jeremy's account of the Grizzly mauling on the Backpacker Magazine "Out Alive" podcast, I had to buy the book, and it didn't disappoint. I appreciated the background information and the detailed account of the attack and his recovery, and am inspired by his will to live and his amazing recovery. And after seeing the selfie that he took right after the mauling, I was absolutely amazed at how well his doctors were able to put him back together--and the incredible amount of will it took to recover from all of the surgeries that were required.This book really made me appreciate my own life that much more--and as an avid outdoorsman myself, it has heightened my appreciation and caution of bears in the wild. Thanks to Jeremy for sharing his incredible story with the world!

This book engaged me from the start! I opened it last night after dinner and did not put it down until finished. Barely breathing through the account of the mauling and Jeremy having the presence of mind to fight back - not only against the bear, but throughout his recovery. It is a testimony to his character, strength, resilience, and love of the natural world. Thank you Jeremy for sharing your journey (and Joyce’s) with those of us fortunate to pick up this book and travel alongside you.

This is an extremely engaging book, I couldn’t put it down! The most amazing part for me was the indelible spirit and the respect for the bear despite Jeremy’s injuries. It’s true that we go into their space and then scream for justice by having bears put down just for them protecting themselves and their cubs. Love this book - what a ride it took me on!

Great read makes the reader feel like you are right there. Makes you look at bears in a totally different way.
