Great as a practise book
Nice practise book for maths. I tried it out with my very bright 8/9 year old (Year 4) and he got on well. There isn't much in the way of explanation of concepts so this is very much a practise book rather than a learning book. For example concepts such as what a denominator is and types of shapes (trapezium, parallelogram) are not explained so a certain amount of knowledge is required and a child who hadn't covered this wouldn't just be able to work through the book (they could do some of it but not all) . There are plenty of little tips and reminders throughout which is good.My almost 9 year old liked the stickers, there are both reward type stickers and stickers as part of answering questions which I think is a really good idea, making the questions that bit more engaging.Answers are all on the inside back cover so easy to access. I also liked the progress chart at the back too. My pictures should give a good indication of the quality of questions, format and style of the book so take a look at them.Recommended as a practise book. Would buy again.

A Good Resource For Home Schooling.
At £3.60, at the time of writing, this Problem Solving book is good value when you consider the range of questions and the excellent stickers included. It is for Ages 9-10 so that is the Y4 or Y5 but I imagine the main market aim is for the Home schooling which has been prevalent during the Covid Lock down. Now as an Ex primary Teacher I need to warm you that the benefits of this book will be wasted if you allow your child to completer[ this in just one sitting.Believe me the brighter children tend to devour these pages at a brisk pace. The book would always be better tackled with an adult / parent discussing the problems with the child. Talking the problem through with a child 1 to 1 is always the better way to get better results and understanding.I like the fact that it is a quality book and the stickers are a good way to encourage a less confident child to complete and tackle the challenges.Giles Clare the author has done a good job.

Problem Solving (Age 9-10 years)
This is a fun book which will help Key Stage 2 children with Problem Solving. It covers everything they need to know from Place Value Problems to Measure Problems, as well as Multiplication & Division of course. Each round of problems give little “Remember” notes for example in “Rounding Problems” it tells you to remember that 1,2,3, 4 round down and 5,6,7,8,9, round down.In the middle of the book there are various fun Stickers for your child to use within the book. The answers to all the problems are on the back cover of the book, which I feel let's this book down as the answers are too visible. Hence giving the book 3 StarsThis is concise little book to work through and to have fun using the stickers.

Problem solving...solved!
One thing I have noticed working with young children is that problem solving in maths appears to consistently by a problem throughout the ks2 maths curriculum. I think it’s so important to be prepared as year 6 SATS will contain problems like these so the sooner they get used to them the better! The 10 year old did struggle with these problems but it gave me an idea of what she needed to work on to prepare her for year 6. There’s a variety of problems such as place value, decimals, time, money and measurements and lots of these subjects won’t have been taught deeply since ks1 so it’s a good reminder. There’s also addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. And stickers!!! All children love to know that they’ve worked hard!

A useful supplement to school work and 11+ prep
This book has been a really handy 11+ preparation tool for our daughter, the book is easy to follow, self explanatory and most importantly fun! Some of the problem solving tasks were a little simple but I liked the way they made her think in a way that compliments her school and 11+ learning but in a much more enjoyable way.The book hasn't lasted long, as in it is short but given the cost this isn't an issue.
