## Description

Product Details Backpack containing internal sheet frame with aluminum stay for additional support when carrying heavier loads. Built around a polypropylene frame with a single aluminum stay, these packs are lightweight alternatives to the steel framed rucks of the past. On top, you will find a soft-lined sunglasses pouch and a sturdy button lock that secures zipper pulls. Inside you will find a pouch for 100oz hydration bladder, ports for drinking tubes on both side, and a variety of mesh pockets to organize your gear. On the back, soft and breezy egg crate padding wicks moisture. A padded removable waist belt distributes the load, and handy pouches keep small items close at hand. The bottom of the pack is reinforced with Hypalon, and has two nylon loops for bedrolls or compression. This is a comfortable pack for day use, rugged 3 day trips, and anything in between. Volume Volume approx.: 1700 cubic inches / 28L.

Decent bag, but not worth $220

*by P***D on Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2014*

For the price I was disappointed with this bag. The bag is built like a tank, but that's about the only really great thing it has going for it. The payoff with that though is that the bag is pretty heavy. The suspension is ok, however the hip belt design is lacking. It has a lot of extra nylon strapping near the pocket area and has to many adjustment buckles, they could have stream lined the design to have less excess nylon webbing making it easier to adjust. The outer side pockets are pretty small in diameter. They will barely fit a standard nalgene water bottle and they taper fast and steep at the bottom. They are also lacking drain holes at the bottom of the pockets, being that the material is dwr, it will gather and keep water in the bottom of the pockets. I would have preferred them to just have molle on the sides vs. the pockets. The guyot designs "backpacker" stainless bottle will fit the best, and the full sized one (38oz) will just barely fit when the pack is full, although very snug. There are two "hidden" type pockets under the water bottle pockets that are accessible from the back panel side of the pack, but if the pack is full and you do have something in the water bottle pockets, they are not that useful, although they are gusseted to allow for expansion. The smaller outer pocket on the back has three small mesh pockets (one zippered on the flap and two non zippered on the back of the pocket) but do not offer much in the way of organization, again they could have done a better job for the price. The main pocket is decently sized and has a water bladder pouch on the back panel as well as a zippered mesh pocket on the flap side. There are two hose outlets on both upper sides. This bag does have a frame sheet that is removable from a zipper inside the main compartment. The frame sheet is contoured to fit your back and is done nicely (for me at least). I was hoping to use this bag as an EDC however it does not meet my needs in the way of space per pocket and organization. A pack like the 5.11 Rush 24 is a better choice having more organization and overall space not to mention its a hundred dollars less. Would I purchase this bag again knowing what I know now? Nope, sure wouldn't.

Wanted to love it, but it just isn't the right dimensions.

*by E***R on Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2014*

I bought this as a pack for my bug-out/hiking setup. I have everything organized in pouches, so I wasn't too concerned about the lack of compartmentalization. But the main interior space is far too shallow...only five inches deep. This means that if you have ANY bulky items, this just won't work well. You can force in larger items, but then you lose even more space in other compartments. Just doesn't work for me...need to get one that isn't as tall, but is deeper to accommodate my gear. Honestly I am not sure what Maxpedition was thinking. The pack is almost 2 feet tall, but still has less usable room in it than other packs with much smaller exterior dimensions. Lesson learned. If the fit is right for you, it is the usual very high quality build. But the interior compartments are not well designed for typical needs.

    Maxpedition Xantha is Awesome!

*by B***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2015*

I primarily use it for an overnight bag. I have it loaded down way more than I should, but the bag is so tough, I don't mind a little extra weight. The pals/molle webbing on the front make the bag very customizable. I have attached the Triad, the FR-1, and a knife using the TacTies. Inside the bag, I have a change of clothes, sleeping gear, food, emergency water, and a few other things that I use frequently when out and about.I highly recommend this bag. I think it's a little too big for day hikes or general use (like taking to school or using as a tactical diaper bag), but for times when you need storage and a ruggedized bag, this is definitely worth the purchase. One important thing to note is that this bag has an internal frame and straps that sit around the waste. This takes all the weight off the shoulders and distributes it evenly across the back and hips. I really like this. For being as heavy as I have it loaded, it's very comfortable and I think it would be too much without the internal frame.I have really been sold on Maxpedition products, this bag has been no exception. The quality is very high. All the seams are well sewn. It uses a heavy ballistic nylon fabric and is coated with Teflon. I have been out in the rain with this, and everything in the bag stays dry without the need for an external cover. Having said that, it wont withstand being fully submerged due to the vents for a bladder, but if you are trying to swim with it or dragging it behind you in a boat, I think you might be bigger issues to deal with.Overall, get this bag, you wont be disappointed and if it's too big for you, get the Zafar which is smaller but still just as good.
