I like them
There are some negative reviews about these cassettes, and while I respect those opinions, I have not had that kind of experience. I bought a couple of these and compared against some other, similar spec’d cassettes, using a Tascam Porta07 and a Yamaha MT4x. To my ears, they sound very good, no problems with hiss or other extraneous noises. Good quality.

Bad batch? Loud pops!
I ordered 2 of these tapes for use in my Tascam 4-track recorder. Both have a super loud intermittent popping every 1 to 2 seconds. This sounds wasn't audible while monitoring the input, but when playing back what was recorded the pops were super loud on top of what was recorded.I thought my 4-track machine was faulty when I tried the second totally unused tape and it also had similar loud pops, bit when I put in an old Maxwell tape there were zero anomalies. I guess there must have been a bad batch. This functionally sabotaged a recording session.

Just get an older type II tape
These tapes are pretty disappointing, right off the bat.I bought a few of these and used them in my tascam 4-track using the recommended stuff (DBX, high speed, also tested without). The quality is pretty subpar for a type II. There’s definitely a volume cut upon playback, and tracks can sound pretty thin. One odd aspect is that the tape occasionally crackles throughout in a way that almost sounds like a vinyl record pop. I bought multiples and they all sound this way.I recorded the same guitar with the same EQ and the same microphone and mic placement on a Maxell type II and man oh man, the difference is night and day. Great balance, perfect treble and bass, punchy and clear with no volume loss. They just can’t make these tapes the same anymore I suppose and that’s a real shame.I honestly would not be surprised if these Tascam tapes are just type I tapes coated black (type I tape is brown, while type II is black). Looking online, the general consensus seems to be that these tapes are definitely inferior to NOS. Ultimately, still totally usable and not a total waste of money but it should be clear that these tapes will not get you the quality that an older Maxell or SDK type II will.

Don't get Robbed by this crap. Really its "ZERO STARS" !!
WOW!!! Save your money, these Tapes not only sound terrible but also come with warped hubs that contribute to some severe Wow and Flutter. the RTM cassette runs rings around this sorry excuse for a tape formulation. tried this tape on 4 Decks that are fully mint and have only been owned by myself. All decks hated this crap. 1-Nakamichi CD 1.5 2-Proton 740 3- Pioneer CTF650 and Teac 400. At $13.99 for a 60min Cassette it is highway robbery. Even if they gave it to you for free you would end up throwing out!!!!!!! Save your money. Buy new old stock or the RTM tape.

Not a tape for Audiophiles
Sadly, due environmental concerns, the Type 2 Chrome tapes of the past that we came to know and love can no longer be produced. Tascam developed a Cobalt Oxide compound for Type 2 tapes due to this constriction. If you’re a audiophile using a high-end vintage cassette deck copying songs on to a tape, this is not the product for you. This was designed for a Tascam PortaPro, allows engineers and artists create warm analog lofi sound signature with their recordings. If you’re an audiophile you are looking make a high quality recording with minimal hiss, and no distortion, you’re better off buying New Old-Stock Chrome tapes or a high quality Type 1 tape. Tascam’s Cobalt Oxide tape has too much noise(even when tested with Dolby S NR) and the high frequencies and bass are distorted. I do appreciate Tascam making a new Type 2 cassette, it shows that there’s a growing demand for tapes again
