Can I use this while swimming?

Hello! To create more spark, we recommend using while dry.

Will this item leak if not stored upright? I bought a bunch a few years ago (from a different manufacturer), and they all leaked! Not for pockets.

The mag strike contains no liquid, it's just a spark rod, so no there's nothing to leak regardless how it's stored.

Solid, high quality. Works just great.

I've been looking for a better quality fire striker for our BOB's. This is it. Going to buy a second one, one for each BOB. Price is good enough, looks and feels durable and I was throwing large amounts of sparks in no time. Two year warranty on this item is a big plus. It's a bit heavier than I like but if it will work when I need it to work I'll deal with added weight just fine.

Throws Big sparks

It's the best fire starter I have ever used. The second this arrived, I tried it out, and it was throwing big sparks. I would suggest having a good fire base and rubbing off the black paint on the rod. I would highly suggest it to any Boy Scout.

Easy to use (if you know how to use it)

Its exactly what you think it is and a perfect tool for Basecamp. I wish I could reply to other reviews on here that complain about "stiffness". Mine works just fine. Slides out with little to no effort but stays in place. To the ones that say its "heavy", probably weighs the same a cell phone with an otterbox. Definitely less than a water bottle. To the ones complaining that only the top of the striker is angled... thats now how you use it. You angle it 45 degrees and press.If you've ever used a magnesium stick, it's the same thing only you dont need to shave it and use your knife. Only thing I'd add is a bit of paracord to keep both ends together in the rare chance you misplace it at camp.
