Good for acrylic PBN paints
I use this Liquitex acrylic paint medium for my PBN Kits. This helps thin out the acrylic paints you get with PBN kits which are usually very thick. The paint will flow off your brushes much better without diluting the pigment.

A Must Have!!
This flow aid had been a game changer that I never knew I needed! Lately, I've gotten into paint by numbers and often times the paint is quite frustrating. Sometimes it's too thick, clumps/dries too quick in the container...or worse, the container comes not all the way closed. Using the flow aid medium (4-5 drops) per PBN pot/container brings the paint to a lovely, smooth consistency without compromising the color or opacity. It makes painting soooo much easier and more fun because the paint simply glides smoothly across the canvas. This also allows for more precision. It is clump free. And because the paint goes on smoothly and evenly, it dries with a more pleasant, professional appearance. I decided to try this product out 3/4 of the way through this PBN and I wish I would have tried it sooner! Adding water to the paint just sucks in comparison. My only recommendation is getting a pipette which will allow you to drip drop the flow aid medium into the small paint pot with accuracy. I found trying to squeeze drops from the bottle a bit troublesome between it dripping down the nozzle and accidently adding too much due to extra drippage and spillage.

This Flow Aid Transformed My Painting—But With a Twist
With acrylic painting, I thought I'd seen it all. That was until I tried Liquitex Flow Aid. At first glance, it seemed like just another medium—clear, watery, and unassuming. But when I mixed it with my paint, the results were nothing short of transformative. The Flow Aid worked wonders, making my paint glide effortlessly onto the canvas. It reduced brush strokes and allowed for smoother blending, giving my artwork a polished, professional finish. Colors became more vibrant, and the flow was impeccable. I was thrilled with the outcome. However, as the painting dried, I noticed something unexpected. The areas where I had applied paint mixed with the Flow Aid appeared more transparent than I had anticipated. While this added a layer of depth to my piece, it wasn't the uniform opacity I had hoped for. This experience taught me an important lesson: the interaction between Flow Aid and different pigments can vary. Some colors, especially those that are naturally transparent, may become even more so when mixed with Flow Aid. It's crucial to test the medium with your specific paints beforehand to ensure the desired effect. Despite this minor setback, I found the overall results to be impressive. The Flow Aid enhanced my painting technique, allowing for smoother application and more vibrant colors. It's a valuable tool for artists looking to improve their acrylic painting process, as long as you're mindful of its impact on paint transparency.

Excellent product
This is a great product for making art paint easier to apply. Easy to use. Blends well and doesn't change the color of the paint.

Great Stuff for Washes and Detail Work
Make sure to read the directions if you've never used this before. 1 part flow aid to 20 parts water. I use a graduated medicine syringe (who doesn't have these floating around their house if you have children?). This product works by reducing the surface tension of the paint (and water) and allows the paint to flow freely. Detail work become much easier to do, as does washes. I bought 2 four oz bottles, and I've barely touched the top 20% of one of them! Little bit goes a really LONG way. ** UPDATE** 15 July 2014 Have discovered that I can thin paint so much that it will allow the paint underneath of it to show through and blend... even paint that is normally opaque. If you would attempt to do this with just water, you could potentially thin it to the point where the binders in the paint no longer adhere well. Flow Aid allows you to thin the paint without using nearly as much water (because of the greatly reduced surface tension), therefore making a wonderful wash to place on top of an existing layer of paint, allowing you to create a unique blend that would otherwise not be possible. One way I have been using this newly discovered technique (new to me anyway) is creating the slightly darker areas of the same color, in the natural folds of clothing of the tiny figurines that I paint, giving it nice depth. A secondary benefit, is that it greatly extends expensive paints, thereby stretching your paint dollars much further, and I have still yet to hardly touch the first bottle I purchased!!

use for thinning a heavy bodied paint to an easy to apply paint
I have some paints that I bought when I first took up painting again. The heavy bodied paint I have is not for fine art but suitable for children's room or art journalling. Rather than waste it I use the flow aid so that I can use these paints in the best way possible for a perfect outcome. It is a real desert island product. Also it is important that living in Qld Australia means that acrylic paint dries so quickly I use a small drop every time I put paint in my palette even if it is an easy flow so that it doesn't dry up.
