She looked once more at the dreaded river. Since Anna's death, it had been such a barrier . . . a place and a moment she could not seem to move past. A line I can't move beyond... The River Tilly and Ruth, two formerly Amish sisters, are plagued by unresolved relationships when they reluctantly return to Lancaster County for their parents' landmark wedding anniversary. Since departing their Plain upbringing, Tilly has married an Englisher, but Ruth remains single and hasn't entirely forgotten her failed courtship with her Amish beau. Past meets present as Tilly and Ruth yearn for acceptance and redemption. Can they face the future in the light of a past they can't undo? Review: I loved this book - I loved this book!!! Tilly has left the Amish world and married an Englischer. She has 2 daughters. Ruth is also living Englisch but I'm not sure if she ever joined church. Their dad is ill and their brother asks them to come home for an anniversary celebration. They go, but Tilly and her dad are just not getting along, Tilly tries but her dad rebuffs her efforts. Then they learn that their parents have deeded their farm to their brother and will be moving into the dawdi house on the property The girls stay to help their parents pack up and move next door. Long ago, their little sister Anna drowned in the river and her body was never recovered. Tilly blames herself for her sister's death. I won't give away what brought Tilly and her dad together, but in the end hey reconciled. After the last series that wasn't Beverly Lewis, this was right on the money. Review: YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN - My only disappointment with any of Beverly Lewis's books are that they come to an end. MS. Lewis is the premier Amish writer of Amish fiction.I have read everyone of her ADULT books. Every book draws you into the story. You feel as if you know the characters. There is always a story line that is so different. Makes you wonder how she thought of this story line and how does she create each character of the book. The River is no different from her other stories. From the very beginning you know that you want to find the secrets of this family. Why did two of the sister's leave their Amish life behind. And what a story it is. I hope that Ms. Lewis will continue to develop these characters into another book. I have more questions about this family and more secrets to be told. Beverly Lewis is the best of the best Amish Fiction. I wish she could write faster !!!!!

I love Beverly Lewis and I've read all of her books
I love Beverly Lewis and I've read all of her books. This book is really good, and I enjoyed reading it. I only gave it four stars because after reading her last few stand alone novels, I've discovered that I prefer her series more. When she writes a series of novels, it allows her to get more in depth with the characters and the story. These shorter stand alone novels don't allow for that. On the positive side, you don't have to wait for the next book to come out to get the conclusion of the story.

Beverly Lewis Does It Again!
This book touched my heart like no other that Beverly Lewis as penned. Confession, forgiveness and redemption were the key themes in this delightful weaving of a beautiful tapestry. I pray that other readers who need to repair relationships take to heart the lessons in this inspiring story. I admit to rejoicing at the end and thanking our Most Gracious Heavenly Father for working in the hearts of those who intently follow Him. Beverly Lewis, thank you for creating such a beautiful story. I eagerly await new books to read from you!

Another great read!
Beverly Lewis has done it again! This book was hard to put down. I love the mysteries included in almost every book she writes and this one has plenty. I love mysteries, and that's usually what keeps me reading. I would love to read more stories written around this family. Thank you Beverly for all of your hard work and for everything you include in the books like your faith in God. I highlighted quite a few verses and wisdom in this book as it is filled with a lot of wisdom. I highly recommend.

The River, was a special story!
This book was a story of love and forgiveness! I liked the way Beverly Lewis brought everything together. I was I glad that the girls who became English, went home and learned so much about their past they didn't know, and how everyone forgave them for being gone so long, found they had missed their family and they had missed them also. It was nice to read that they no longer cared they were English, they just wanted to be a family again!

Loved this novel
I just love Lancaster County and am very familiar with the roads and descriptions of the farms. I loved the characters of Tilly and Ruthie and were so glad they returned home but are able to stay in touch with their family as it should be. The story was filled with suspense that kept me wondering chapter to chapter. I have read every book of Beverly Lewis' and she continues to write excellent stories. Looking forward to her next book!

Beverly Lewis, but not quite at her best.
I believe I've read every novel Beverly Lewis has written, and, almost without exception, have greatly enjoyed them all. This one was not quite up to par though because the characters didn't have the depth she usually instills in her characters. It was lacking in a cohesive storyline I have come to expect of her works. I'll be anxious to read her new books to see if she gets back the writing style that has made her the "Queen of Amish Fiction."

An Amish Story
I read this on the Kindle This was a funny sort of one i love Beverly Lewis's books but this didn't grab me to start with as her other books it was only the last 4 or so chapters that i didn't want to put it down & so was reading it late in to the night The Story is about secrets & how Tilly & her father were while she was growing up she & her sister Ruth have gone in to the English world While the book & story is good i could have stopped reading this one up to about half way through it not that it bad it just not that it didn't follow & the way some of Tilly's brothers were where is the forgiveness also with Tilly & her father it just didn't seem to be how it would be or someone would say something Ruth has her own choices to make concerning an old Beau I say if you get this do stick with it but i would possible if given the choice pick possible another one of her books
