The Secret of the India Orchid (Proper Romance)

After thoroughly enjoying Allen's My Fair Gentleman I eagerly picked up this sequel about the sister of the previous protagonist. The book starts with Anthony Blake, whose planning on courting Sophia Elliot has to be put on hold when he receives the news that he needs to become a spy again to retrieve a dangerous revealing document. Chapter two picks up two years later as Sophia continues to work on putting her feelings for Anthony behind her. But Sophia and Anthony meet again in India and it's clear from the beginning that their feelings for each other are as strong as ever. But Anthony's mission is not yet over and as such he can't reveal his reasons for backing off to Sophia. But Sophia finds herself getting involved in the mystery when a man ends up being attacked with a young boy as the witness. I enjoyed both the romance and the mystery/action parts of the book. Both Sophia and Anthony are likable, great characters. Shadow Mountain's Proper Romance series has become my favorite source for romance because they are clean with great stories and characters.

I finished reading The Secret of the India Orchid (Proper Romance) by Nancy Allen Campbell around Thanksgiving. It really brought India alive with description of the sights, smells and culture. I like that the author explored the attitudes and biases of the residents, and didn't whitewash the caste system or the racism. I felt I learned about India but it wasn't a lecture or travel log but vital and relevent information in the story. The main characters were fun. They made me laugh. I liked their unconventional courtship. The supporting cast members were also well crafted and interesting. I'm excited for some more books from this author.

I can't say I love India Regency books, but this one surprised me. This book has some characters from "A Fine Gentleman", but it is stand alone. It had mystery, suspense, intrigue and romance. What more could you want?I loved both the hero and the heroine. They both felt like real people with real personalities. I love that the heroine was feisty but forgiving. We all like it when the guy has to work for it!This was a proper romance but with kissing which I personally love. There was attraction without going too far. Excellent job!

Stunning description, of country,people. I love the solid for of romance between Anthony and Sophia it s very refreshing. I think Anthony should have expressed his concern for secrecy in his letter and let Sophia know what he was about in leaving England. It pessimist too intense the other way.Wonderful read. Inspiring. Love the way the child was involved. I love child psychology. Love children.

While I have loved all of the proper Romance books I have read to date, this one definitely stands out. I love the mystery of the whodunnit, along with a beautiful love story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this well written story. The characters were outstanding as well as the description of India's jungles and palaces. I could close my eyes and imagine being there with everyone. I highly recommend this book and I plan to read more books from this outstanding Author.

Great book.I read this a long time ago and just finished reading it again the other day and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend reading the book before this as well. You don't need to but it helps with the characters in my opinion. (my fair gentleman) I really loved all the characters and the love story is SO sweet and endeering.

I enjoyed this, another of the Proper Romance books. Nice to have a selection of books which you can be guaranteed to give you an enjoyable clean feel-good read! I very much enjoyed this book!
