Leviton Surface Mount Backbox, Single Gang, 1.89", 42777-1EA, Black

Deep boxes are extremely difficult to find here in Hawaii. Am retrofitting an old house with shallow surface mounted old boxes. New upgraded outlets are deeper and more room is required. Pleasantly surprised that this product is TWO PIECES! Base plate screwed in and notched box snapped in over wiring. Made my job so much easier. Looks good. Note: This is not a heavy duty box. Works for me.

This is a decent product, but there are 2 things I dislike. And I was using them in a boat, which might be more unique than typical home/garage installation (although my issues do apply as well). #1 - the box is angled, ie the back where it meets the wall is larger than the face. The 4 sides angle inwards for some cosmetic reason. The practical problem is if you were to attempt to install these where say a horizontal surface meets a wall (like say atop a countertop or work bench that is attached directly to a wall) - the little cosmetic twist makes it so there will be a funny gap underneath the box and you can't fasten it to a horizontal surface. Or similarly, if you put two of these next to eachother, there will be a funny angled gap between them since they are not a square box. #2 - the backside of these snaps into place, ie the box you see in the pictures is not one piece of plastic. I do not know why they do this, there isn't a reason to take the backside off when installing them. And the trouble is, if someone bumps into this box and unsnaps the backside (which is how you mount it to the wall) the other part of the box along w/ the outlet is going to be dangling with exposed wires.

Absolutely no issue with my purchase. Installation was smooth. Not easy for a child to plug something in. Some adults might even have a challenge. 🙂

Just got this and it was easy to install on a wall. The back plate can be easily removed from the sides and placed with exact position then the box or sides can be easily snaped back into place. Comes with out the screws so you will need to buy them and wall anchors.

Very well made and solid construction. I like the cutouts in the back and the different options to attach it to a wall, etc. It's also nice that the back detaches from the sides -- that makes it easier to mount. And while there's an outline showing how you'd make cutouts in the sides, you have to make them yourself, say with a drill or hacksaw.

Too thin and not sturdy. Returned for refund.

I really like this box, enable the wires to breathe due to some nice grooves behind the box. You can snap off any predetermined holes in the back so that you can pass wire. Fits perfectly in my wall and respect code dimensions. I recommend this box

Couldn’t find these anywhere but on Amazon. They look fantastic and we’re easy to install. Highly recommend.

Perfect for adding outlets in my sunroom where I have no wall cavities. Super happy they came in black to fit my decor choices!

Functions well for a non (in wall) installation. I did gave the option for an in-wall box install so this box served well for an on wall installation.
