Pretty good. Review: Re-meet George Jetson......... - Fans of all ages need no introduction to Hanna-Barbera's Classic TV series `The Jetsons,' but may be confused by the origin date of this fabulous DVD release: 1985! That's because the "original" Jetsons, which debuted Sept. 23, 1962, lasted for only one season on ABC, but became much more successful when it eventually ended up in syndication. (Those episodes have already been released on DVD. The Jetsons - The Complete First Season ) That successful syndication led to a brief revival in 1985 with all-new episodes. The new series, referred to as `Season Two,' boasted more advanced animation, which had richer color, along with attempts to add content to make it seem even more futuristic than its parent show. The first 21 Episodes from 1985's `Season Two,' have been collected here for the time in this three-disc boxed set from Warner Home Video. Jetsons-Season 2 V01 In addition, a special featurette, `Jetsons: Return to the Future,' is also included that focuses on the evolution of the series. Among those interviewed is animation expert Mark Evanier. `The Jetsons' was originally conceived following the iconic success of Hanna-Barbera's `The Flintstones,' which featured a `modern' Stone Age family. Hanna-Barbera decided to turn their Bedrock success on its ear, creating a similar family cartoon, but changed the setting to their vision of the Space Age - the 21st century! The Jetsons originally lived Orbit City, a city where the houses were literally way, way up in the air, like Space Age needles. The family included George, his wife, Jane, and their children Judy and Elroy, along with their beloved dog, Astro. A very sweet robot housekeeper, Rosie, equipped with an unexpected personality, soon joined the family. So, the Jetsons lived the `average' life in Hanna-Barbera's future, which incorporated flying space cars, instant transport tubes, various robots and a host of other bizarre gadgets to make their lives a breeze. But, the wonderful thing about The Jetsons was that, regardless of the technology, their problems were the same ones faced by families of all ages. In the original `Season One,' George worked at Spacely Space Sprockets, run by his pint-sized, ill-tempered boss, Cosmo S. Spacely. In `Season Two,' new characters were introduced, including a a second pet for the Jetsons named Orbitty, whose spring-like legs and suction cup feet enabled him to suspend himself on anything and in any direction. Orbitty is also able to change color to reflect his emotions. The `Season Two' episodes collected here, along with the second-half of the 1985 episodes yet to be released, also aired in syndication, and generated the same level of success as the original episodes had. As a result, a second revival occurred, leading to 10 more episodes, referred to as `Season Three,' finalizing the episode series in 1987! In addition, `The Jetsons' prompted two TV movies: The music-themed `Rockin' with Judy Jetson,' and then a true Hanna-Barbera crossover, `The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones.' In 1989, `The Jetsons: the Movie' hit the big screen with its only film, which depicted the finale of the entire series. An important note, this movie is being released on DVD for the first time from Universal Studios. The Jetsons: The Movie It's being dedicated to the memories of George O'Hanlon, the voice of George Jetston, and Mel Blanc, THE master voice animator, who was also the voice of Mr. Spacely. Ironically, this movie was the final voice project for both men. The 21 episodes in this DVD boxed set from `Season Two' are: Elroy Meets Orbitty; Rosie Come Home; Solar Snoops; Judy's Birthday Surprise; Super George; Family Fallout; S.M.A.S.H.; The Mirrormorph; Mother's Day for Rosie; Jetsons' Millions; Fugitive Fleas; Rip-Off Rosie; Far-Out Father; Astro's Big Moment; The Cosmic Courtship of George and Jane; Fantasy Planet; S'no Relative; Instant Replay; Haunted Halloween; Future Tense; and The Wrong Stuff. We fans can only hope that after all of this time, the remainder of `Season Two,' and the 10 episodes comprising the final `Season Three,' will be released onto DVD very, very soon!

Fascinating futuristic family stories of the "Jetsons"
I chose this 5 star rating because my grandchild, Chance is crazy over it, and he is only 6 years old! This series of stories are the only thing in 5 years that has distracted him happily from his obsession for Dinasaurs of all kinds. He loves to go to his room and watch these, and fall asleep having happy dreams of them. They are truly charming! The animation is the old timey kind, which is so much better than the choppy kind they morphed into as time went on.You simply cannot beat these time tested hits from a better, more innocent time this world was blessed with. You will be pleased as punch if you decide to buy this,Try it, you'll like it!

A nice addition to my collection of childhood favorite shows
I enjoyed the Jetsons as a child. As an adult, I still enjoy it. I wanted to share the experience with my grandkids. Found and bought the complete 3 season series, and the 2 movies featuring The Jetsons (+the Flintstones in one of them). I also bought the Flintstones series too, to add two my collection of old time favorites. It has been fun watching these shows again on those rainy days we had while RV camping this summer, this week.

The Future is Now
Bought this set for my son's collection of DVD's (he prefers 60's cartoons) Being autistic it can be difficult to know if he likes something or if it is just a new thing of limited interest. I have give nit a few weeks and he still picks the set to watch and sings along (in whatever language he has) to the show. He says Jetson's clearly (big bonus). The DVD set is well packaged and has Closed Captioning as well as a full selection menu for episodes or play all. This is Season Two Vol One so I am looking for Season One as well as Season Two Vol Two. If you remember the Jetson's these are here in clear copy and sound.

These were a hit for my boys.
I bought these for Christmas for my 8 year old twin boys. I knew I would enjoy them as I grew up watching the Jetsons as a kid. This was the first time they heard of the Jetsons. We went on a family driving trip for vacation over the winter break. The Jetsons were the only thing they wanted to watch. It didn't take them long to be singing the theme song. They love them.

When I first heard that over the period 1985 to '87 they had made 52 more episodes of The Jetsons, I wasn't sure whether to be pleased or dismayed. But I needn't have worried. The new episodes are almost indistinguishable from the originals. There are only two main differences: 1) an iritating new pet Orbity, who fortunately doesn't appear much after the 1st episode. He could have reduced the Jetsons to a young-childrens animation show. But as a minor character he doesn't hurt the shows watchability. 2) They occasionally talk about microchips, not just sprockets and cogs. But again this does not weaken the new episodes. Other than these two things you cannot tell the 1960s episodes from the mid 1980s ones. They have the same actors voicing them, and the new ones are great. So if you love the original 1960s Jetsons show please DO buy these episodes! Jetsons: The Complete First Season [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC ] Jetsons: Season 2 V.1 [DVD] [2009] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC ] The Jetsons: the Movie [DVD ] Jetsons Meet the Flintstones [DVD] [1987] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC ]

'The Jetsons.' was my favourite cartoon Show when I was a kid and even now, in my nostalgia-inclined mid-fifties, I still love it. In 2024, this age of 4K HDR blu ray, it has to be said that the video on this 'The Jetsons.' Season 2 Vol.1 DVD set isn't great. It's rather fuzzy and many outlines around characters have what might be termed 'Ghosting' - like an old Cathode Ray Tube TV image that isn't tuned in to the TV station properly. However there's no visual damage to be seen on any of the episodes, the colours are pretty good and the 2-Channel left-right Stereo separation of the audio is so impressive that it almost makes up for the so-so image quality. It really does sound quite dynamic! Sadly Seasons 2 & 3 of 'The Jetsons.' from 1985 and 1987 respectively were recorded on videotape rather than Celluloid Film stock as Season 1 was in the early '60s, and according to Warner Bros (who I emailed about the issue), this means that the technology to bring Seasons 2 & 3 up to High Definition resolution and release them on blu ray doesn't yet exist. So for the time being we fans of 'The Jetsons.' have to be content with DVD. Still; at least we have them on disc and all things considered, they could look a lot worse. Fingers crossed that one day soon someone will invent the technology to take images recorded on standard definition videotape and turn it into high definition so that Seasons 2 & 3 can be released on blu ray in HD like Season 1 has been. All things considered, I still recommend this 'The Jetsons.' Season 2 Vol.1 DVD set. I've given it 4 stars purely for the quality of the entertainment value.
