Great product.
When we decided to get a mandolin, I did a lot of research. I read many, many reviews on a lot of different brands and styles. We looked a may of them in the local stores. I just was not satisfied with their quality and sturdiness. We decided to purchase this one, the Bron Original Stainless Steel Mandolin. Well worth the price! The construction, sturdiness, sharpness and ease of cleaning. Hot water and the sprayer nozzle does it. I also like the fact that you can get replacement parts from Bron. I cant imagine i'll need any but it is nice to know you can. The box is also handy for storage. I do recommend cut resistant gloves, it is that sharp. It is our go to for a lot of things. When we first got it, I used one potato and one carrot to figure out how it worked. What a joy, i cant believe we went so long with out one. Want carrot sticks for the kids lunch, get a weeks worth in 5 min. want coleslaw, done in 10 min. And the kids love the fact we can have fresh french fries any day.I really don't under stand the reviews that say it is too sharp or hard to use!! Sharpness is a good thing. Hard to setup or hard to use? You have got to be joking right? Setup out of the box was straight forward, i like the edge brace, you can set it over the counter edge and really do a lot of slicing. The thickness setting is infinitely adjustable from paper thin to the maximum. I my opinion that is a good thing( if you don't know how thick a potato chip should be the instructions won't tell you). I looked at the instructions for about 30 sec. when I first opened the box. I did look at them again after about two months just to see if I missed something, nope.

Look no further
I was sold on this device when I decided to do a review, but had to test a couple things: French fries - leave it to the French to build a device that cuts pomme frites perfectly, and cuts carrots into perfect matchsticks. A+. Thin sliced onion - quick and perfectly sliced. This device does apples, too. A+.I got a whetstone to maintain the blade. No edge lasts forever. Sharpening is part of the upkeep. Cleaning is a matter of rinsing off vegetable starches and sugars. Let it dry. Easy.Bottom line is that this device replaces all of the slicing blades of a food processor. Plus - set up and cleaning takes far less time. The food processor will still be useful for hummus, pie dough, bread crumbs and grating cheese, but I'll use my Bron Coucke if not a knife.

The blades are stupid sharp, so make sure you use cut proof ...
Really well built mandoline. The adjustments are smooth but firm enough not to move while cutting. The blades are stupid sharp, so make sure you use cut proof gloves! One of my favorite things... it's made from really good stainless steel, and most of the time you can wash it by simply rinsing with hot water. The food holder/handle thing is also of extremely high quality. It has a spiked pad on the underside to hold the food in place that appears to be made of solid PTFE, which is not a cheap material (but excellent for kitchen use)! This mandoline just oozes quality. It's a joy to use. Definitely worth the money if you make fries/chips, julienne, or slice veggies on a regular basis.

Professional grade mandolin slicer
This has less capabilities than some competitors, but is well-built stainless steel throughout and does a great job with infinitely-variable slicing thickness, julienne for vegetable sticks, and shredding. The blade can be resharpened, but it was very sharp on arrival. It takes a little more force than V-cut or diagonal cut slicers, but works fine for firm vegetables. The thickness adjustment lever was fairly stiff; you may want to brace your hands on the sides and use both thumbs. Hopefully that will ease up with use. Other brands that are largely plastic have broken - this won’t.

It was at the end of its life and he heard this was an excellent slicer. There must be something wrong with this ...
My husband ordered this for me as a gift. I have used a different mandoline slicer for 18 years. It was at the end of its life and he heard this was an excellent slicer. There must be something wrong with this because it does not slice anything smoothly at all. It tears up the food and I have to use so much force that I am afraid I will eventually injure myself. The problem is I didn't open it right away and we didn't find out until it was past the point of being returned to Amazon. Now I can't find any information on servicing the product. I contacted the seller but heard nothing back. Feeling frustrated.

A Very substantial Product, BUT
First let me say that the picture of this product is not accurate. The model I received has rubber feet up front as well as at the rear and it also has a fold out bar that can be hooked over your table edge to keep it secure. In addition, the sliding part on top is mounted backwards and anyone trying to use it this way would see what I mean. I wish people in marketing would pay enough attention to the products they are advertising to actually understand them. This an extremely well made product and I can see why folks have these things for 30 years or more. The all stainless body is a cinch to rinse and clean and put away. This is an excellent product for all crispy vegetables. French fries are particularly easy to make and in very short order as well. However as other reviewers have noted the straight blade is simply not sharp enough to deal with the tough skins bred into mass grown tomatoes. We invited company for lunch the first time I had a chance to use the mandoline and they watched intently as I completely destroyed a lovely large tomato trying to achieve even one good slice. I made a note to self - always try out your new kitchen gadgets before you tell your company how great they are.Overall this is a great machine but like pretty much everything it has it's limitations. A sharp knife, well handled, will always produce better tomato slices.
