Purchasing for independent elderly. How does the auto shut-off work?

I just called Zojirushi's customer support line and they said the ad is wrong and it does not have an auto shut-off feature. I was buying for the same reason you mentioned.

10.5 inch diameter, close 3 inch in heigh

I don't think that it does.There is no timer function as far as I know.
