Not a bad scooter. Poor brakes and tyres
It looks great in the images on Amazon, and it looks great when you get it out of the box. There's no denying it, these are good looking scooters. They are solidly build, bright colours, and have some nice styling in the handlebars and forks.Using them on tough terrain, they feel solid, not rattly like the fold-away scooters, and the handlebars are high enough and large enough to grip, unlike some of the other more compact scooters. But, (and there's always a but), you don't get a premium quality scooter for this low a price. That price comes from a few cheap choices here and there.Firstly, let's take the wheels. "EVA Tyres", But, what's EVA? It's plastic, Ethylene-vinyl acetate, and is used as a stand-in when rubber's too expensive. The whole wheel seems to be ultrasonically bonded plastics. The problem is that rubber may look shiny, but when you hit the brakes, it becomes very sticky to the road. With these, the EVA plastic is too shiny and smooth, so there's almost no grip, especially on shiny or wet surfaces. A quick test on tile showed that it'd slide out on a mild turn. That takes us on to the brakes. The inner rim of the tyre is plastic, and the brake shoes are also plastic. Plastic-against-plastic isn't as friction-inducing as rubber-on-metal of bike tyres or other scooter tyres. So, if your little one is thundering along and suddenly hits the brakes, they ain't stopping any time soon. It's a slow and gentle deceleration. Personally I'd remove front brakes altogether from scooters, and just have them on the back, but this scooter needs them on both because the plastic just doesn't work as well. Finally, the kick stand. It's not quite mounted so it goes 'under' the board, it sticks out a little to the side, so it can catch the side of your leg as you're scooting. Therefore, it's always best to scoot with the other leg down, just in case. My little ones have come back with some bloody scrapes from the kickstand taking a chunk out of their ankles. So, yeah, you get what you pay for. It looks ace, but it has a few niggles that you should be aware of before buying.
