Great enclosure
this is the second vantec product I've gotten and it has one defining feature: quality. The aluminum housing feels premium and for the price it should. After assembly it worked instantly and it's rubber feet transfer none of the vibrations to and from the drive inside it. no drivers need to be installed and assembly is quick and easy if you take your time and don't rush. Only drawbacks for it is that I paid more for the enclosure than I did for the drive. The cost definitely could have been a lot less since it's just a glorified sata to usb 3.0 adapter but I admit the aluminum is elegant and well made. The other drawback is that it uses usb 3.0 type b instead of a usb c connection. I imagine a future version of the drive will come with type c but it's at least better than 2.0 speeds like i've seen with other enclosures on amazon. Overall it's a great get if you have a computer that doesn't have an internal drive bay. It's an elegant piece of hardware that looks great on my desk and it's worked pretty flawlessly.

Best Value Single-Bay SATA Enclosure on Amazon
This is an nicely-engineered little enclosure with a decent build quality at its price point. It's perfect for my SATA Blu-ray drive, which drive does not slide around inside the enclosure after securing it with the included screws. They also included rubberized, adhesive feet to keep it from sliding around. It is truly plug-and-play: power it on, plug it in, and you're ready to go (at least on the latest major versions of Windows 11 and Ubuntu). I have already used it for 10-12 power on hours ripping multiple discs without any transfer or power issues.

Works as intended.
I mean, it's an enclosure. Not much to them. I do remember the days of there being a lot of options for these kinds of items. This one would still stand out as higher quality even when it seemed there were a dozen companies making them. Now what few are available are often twice the price. I'll judge its price versus the current market. At least this one allowed me to do a firmware update on the optical drive inside without any compatibility issues. Haven't always been that lucky in the past. Assembly was straight forward.

A few cons but good overall
It works good. I paired it with an lg blu ray drive that I flashed with libredrive firmware over SATA 1 year ago. This drive often caused Windows Explorer to crash on my Windows 10 PCs. The file explorer will forever be indexing and not be usable until I restart Windows Explorer in the task manager. Then it breaks the thumbnails until I restart my PC. This was not a problem when I used the the same drive over SATA. The enclosure is built well. It is aluminum with plastic bumpers. The package comes with a small screwdriver and many extra screws in case you lose some. The small drawback here is the standoff feet. They are 4 little rubber pieces that attach to the enclosure with adhesive. If you carry this thing in a backpack the legs will eventually fall off and get lost. A cheap shortcut solution for a $60 product in my opinion. The OWC Mercury Pro has feet that screw on for the same price. Overall, the cons are not deal breakers for me so I won't be returning it or anything but if I were to do it again I would buy the OWC Mercury Pro.

Bought by one of my boys so this is his review via mom....
As per my son, "This was what I needed and it fits perfect into my desktop case, which made me happy. It was easy to install and it runs well so far with no glitches or issues. I love being able to play old games that are on cd's with it as well as watch movies I have whenever I want."

The enclosure takes up little room, well constructed and works great.
After switching from a desktop to a laptop, I wanted to keep my DVD burners since the laptop doesn’t have one. I purchased two external enclosures and connected them to my HP G5 docking station, and both work perfectly. I keep them powered off when not in use, which helps save electricity compared to when they were always on with the desktop. The enclosures seem to be made of aluminum, feel sturdy, and are only slightly larger than the drives themselves, making them easy to stack.

Handy external optical drive enclosure
Worked exactly as advertised. Nice quality aluminum construction. I was building a new PC and was dismayed at how most cases these days don't have 5.25 inch drive bays anymore so I decided to go the external enclosure route instead of buying a new external BD-RE drive. Slipped in my good old Lite-On BD-RE drive, connected the SATA cable, secured the included screws to hold the drive in place and I was off and running. Couldn't be easier, drive works just like it did before. I didn't bother attaching the rubber feet. I may put a few strips of black electrical tape on the bottom for cushioning if the need arises. Speed seems to be the same via USB 3.0 as it did when it was installed internally. Yes, it is pricy but all in all very satisfied with this enclosure.

Well impressed with this. You just plug in the SATA cable that comes with the device then slot the drive in until flush. Plug and play USB, works great. Very stylish too, it's made of a nice metallic finish so it's a solid quality product.

Great piece of kit. If you have a suitable optical drive (I had one reclaimed from an old PC), installation is a doddle, and this enclosure is nicely built and works perfectly (on Windows 11 in my case). My main reason for wanting it is to still be able to rip CDs on my new optical drive-less PC, and it works exactly as I expected/hoped. My old drive still rips at high speed (I watched it go up to 37x in my first test). DVDs and Blu-rays play fine with a standard player app. The enclosure comes with USB3.0 cable, screws and screwdriver to secure the drive, and rubber feet. The only frustration is that it comes with a US plug, so you'll need a UK-US plug adapter. UK mains voltage/frequency is fine.
