Meine Sonne und mein Schild: Eine deutsch-afrikanische Liebesgeschichte – Rezension.
My Sun and shield: a German-African love story review. The Story opens on an African Farm Christmas, 1951. The farmer is a German, and he has arrived from Germany with his wife and 3 children. They had fled East Germany soon after the Second World War. Eberhard, the author of our story is 10 and his sister Runhild is 13 or 14 and they have a young brother of about 4. This first chapter sets the scene masterfully, giving the reader a glimpse of their past and a very different present African Christmas. There could hardly be a greater contrast between the European Christmas in forests and lakes, snow and bleak skies and the African one far from any family with rivers of dry sand and the earth always hot. The Christmas candles had to be kept in a cooler to prevent them from melting. We are also introduced to the beautiful Herero people. Clearly there is an appreciation of the farm workers for their German masters and visa versa. Truly there was peace, mutual respect and kindness between the European and Africans. The subtitle of the book tells possibly the second most important theme “a German - African love story”. The book contains 27 Chapters that are not chronological but each one is a rich and worthwhile essay on its own and I have found myself going back to enjoy and be enriched by the stories again and again. The chapters are so very varied and cover a wide range of subjects. The title of the book is also suitable and it does give a unifying theme. My Sun and Shield comes from a phrase of the book of Psalm 84:11 proclaims God as a "sun and shield" who bestows grace and glory, withholding no good thing from those who walk uprightly. This verse highlights God’s protection, provision, and favour for those living with integrity, acting as a source of comfort and trust in His character. (The English reference is Psalm 84:11 but the German and Afrikaans have it as verse 12 of Psalm 84.) The personal family history of both Eberhard's mother and father is told with gratitude and pride with roots in the world of water, agriculture, forestry, and the military. There is no preaching or moralising, no anger or hate against the suffering is talked about, the chapter with the theme “The final solution” is so painful even to read, as is the chapter on the battle of Wartberg, which is also known as the Herero genocide, but there is also a chapter with the title “Father Forgive”. God has seen the pain and contrite hearts of the German people, and the author, Eberhard, has forgiven and healed … it is his heart’s desire that the nation (and this means families and individuals) forgive and receive forgiveness. Some stories need to be told well, and they can take up a lot of space to tell. The Missionary story of Namibia is a long chapter and it is separated from the secular or colonial history as I believe it should be. There is also a chapter on apartheid, and this theme could have taken up a few books but correctly this is confined to tell a part of the apartheid story. There are two stories that I would so love you to get this book to read for yourself. They are hidden to some extent and worth a mention here so you do not miss them. The first story is the mental illness Eberhard suffered with 3 bouts of bipolar and depression. He tells how he was healed by a simple prayer and running daily. It was and is a real healing – no hype and no fanfare. The last is the story of the last year of Falicity’s life, where Eberhard said it was the happiest year of his life with Falicity. She needed his 100% attention and there was no time to do his own thing. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Eberhard’s life and the story of My Son and Shield.

Perfect when you forget to mail that birthday card E gift card is simple
I’ve been an Amazon shopper from day one. Amazon is my go to for everything. Especially during Covid and over the past four years as I continued to battle Cancer. The convenience and pricing are always great. After years of buying I never thought to send an E gift card until most recently when I needed a quick gift. I was really excited at the options available I could select to mail text or email the e-gift card. to even mail a It worked out perfectly and saved me because I forgot to mail a card & send money as I normally would. I was able to write a nice birthday note. I think I was even given a timeframe where I could send it like an opportunity to send it right then when I ordered it or later that day, which is great The only issue I had was I didn’t give the person a heads up. I didn’t send them a text and say hey happy birthday I sent you an E gift card from Amazon so when they got their text from Amazon, they thought it might be a spam text so they deleted the message. I didn’t find out until when I reached out to make sure they got it and they felt bad told me they thought it was a spam and they deleted. The great part about that is I was able to sign in my account and the option to resend the text was quickly and easily available to me. Amazon made that step very easy and even the extra step to make sure I used the correct number. Perfect easy & convenient just as all my other shopping is with Amazon. Gotta love it. Definitely give it a try.

Amazon Gets it to the Recipient Fast!
I think the best thing about these Amazon e-gift cards is just how fast they are. I needed one in a pinch for somebody’s birthday, placed the order around 4:55 p.m., and literally about five minutes later the person already had it on their end. That kind of efficiency is what makes products like this so useful, especially when you need a last-minute gift and don’t feel like driving to the store just to buy a physical card. Simple, fast, convenient, and it gets the job done. Highly recommend.

Easy choice if you don't know what to gift
Let me tell you, buying an Amazon Gift Card is the smartest, simplest thing I've done in years. At my age, I don't want to fuss over returns or guess if a sweater is the right shade of blue. It's as easy as picking up a card at the grocery store. You just hand it over, and there's that wonderful *rustle* of the paper as they peel back the silver strip to reveal the code. When they type it in, you can almost hear the soft *click-clack* of the keyboard, followed by that quiet *hum* of satisfaction when the balance appears on the screen. It feels like giving a warm hug without the awkwardness. There's no noise, no confusion, just a gentle peace of mind knowing they can pick exactly what they need. It's a thoughtful, quiet gift that speaks volumes without saying a word. I'll be buying these for the grandkids every year; it's just that easy.
