Health Benefits Of Prekese
I ordered this to add to my ingredient list of healthy things I put into my morning super charged coffee which has more nutrition then most people get all day.Prekese is a dark purple-brown Tropical African fruit that contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. Its bark, fruits, and leaves are also packed with medicinal agents. It's rich in iron, potassium, calcium, zinc, phosphorus, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and phenolic compounds. Of the 18 health benefits of Prekese you can look up by searching, one of which is that Prekese is beneficial for the cardiovascular system because of its addition of essential phytochemicals. It can also be used for treating heart-related diseases. On my Dad's side, they all had serious heart problems and my dad had his first heart attack at age 24. I'm retired now and never had any serious health issues or any heart problems because of healthy frame of mind and mindful of the power of nature’s cures which seem to even override many of my bad habits or indulgences. I have not even had a cold or flu in over 20+ years and take no pharmaceutical medications. If I feel like something is about to come over me I up my nutritional intake of special supplements and herbal tinctures, etc. and give myself a break to let nature do what it should with natures ingredients. That's why things like Prekese should be on your radar screen too.Along with many other dried powdered nutritious plants I premix all together (2 Table spoonful’s at a time ea.) like, Beets, GoJI Berry, Blueberry, Pomegranate, Heart Greens mix, Chaga Mushroom, Lions Main extract, Broccoli Powder, Spinach Powder, Chlorella Powder, Hawthorn Berry Powder, etc, I will be adding Prekese. In my coffee pot goes 3 drops of J.Crow's Lugol's Iodine Solution, some Niacin Powder, and let the coffer drip in. Then to my coffee mug goes 2 spoonful’s of Collagen Powder, 1 spoonful of Sunflower Lecithin, 1 capful of Plant derived Minerals, 1 spoonful of Coconut oil, then the big spoonful of the big premixed powders listed above, then pour in that coffee. It's fast and simple to do. It taste great and pretty much covers all the health bases at least for me. It's generally my breakfast too by the way or offsets it for a long while.I have yet to try Prekese as a cooking spice so that I can't comment on that. But it is said to be good in soups and has antibacterial and antimicrobial agents. Also, Prekese helps in increasing the production of milk in breastfeeding mothers which is something women should know about and share.

Great in stews, haven't tried it any other way though
I must admit, prior to getting this product, I had never heard of Prekese. My girlfriend convinced me to get this, and her family is from Somalia, and as a result, they were very familiar with this product. We used it in a beef and vegetable stew that we made one weekend. Our goal was to do some meal planning, and we made a whole crockpot full of the soup, and used 4 teaspoons of this in it. When coupled with our beef based broth, it lent a little bit of sweetness, but nothing else. We will need to try this product in other ways, but so far I have been a little disappointed. That said, this comes in a 4oz package. While it is not the biggest, the truth is that you will not need to use too much of it at a time to make a difference. Plus the price is right.

Tastes great and helped lower my pulse rate and blood pressure
I primarily use this in my tea, as you can tell by the picture. Although it is a nice spice for a savory stew or pot of lentils too. It has an earthy flavor and aroma.I actually put a half teaspoon in my large cup of tea each day. I just put it in a cup, add hot water, steep it for a few minutes, then strain it into my tea. It blackens the tea (the powder is brown but when it hits hot water it gives off a blackish color) and adds a nice earthy flavor to it. I also made some lentils with it, and it was delicious. But beside being enjoyable (I actually really like the flavor and want to use the powder) it also produced results. I've been monitoring my blood pressure and pulse rate and both went down when I started using this. Nothing dangerous, just an improvement of 10 less heartbeats a minute (from 90s down to 80s) and about 20 points off upper and lower numbers on blood pressure. I'd been hitting the 140/90 range and after using this was down to 125/70, so an improvement, and it seems to help out most of the day. These are my results using it. I'm no doctor and this is not a medical opinion, just a happy user sharing his results. So it is delicious, aromatic, and has some personal health benefits that I enjoy.

Adds a slight flavor to soups but changes color alot
I added a heaping tsp to a bowl of sauerkraut kieilbasa soup and then microwaved to reheat. It will change color of soup from white to brown. Adds a earthly flavor, which matches the smell of the powder. The flavor will linger after eating the soup. But the flavor isnt overwhelming and remains in the background adding a different dimension to the soup. It did not thicken the soup so either I need to boil it or add more. I wouldnt add more than a tsp as it would detract from orginal flavor of soup. Decide why you want it and put it to the test. It has minerals like iron and calcium, good for inflamation, blood sugar control, weight loss, so we will see. But you have to be consistant every day to expect good results. So I will try a tea next. 3 star because its ok and I have not put it to the test over 30 days yet. but I will .

My new must have spice for butternut squash, acorn squash. Nice added to broths. Interesting!
I think the mild herbally flavor enhances other flavors rather than providing a specific flavor, if that makes sense. Kind of like how umami "seasoning" works.Aroma is fresh, and reminds me of celery seed. Taste is less so. I am not sure what I am tasting. Something mild and earthy. I dont notice thickening, but I dont use much. I like adding it to my sipping broths. Pairs real nice with a butternut squash based soup, or any roasted squash. I am all for anything that is healthy and supports immune system. Love trying any and all seasonings, herbs, etc. This could become a pantry staple. Next up is to try it sprinkled on a protein.
