Kyocera Duraxe E4830 Epic AT&T Flip Smart Phone 16GB Rugged PTT Wi-Fi LTE Black (Renewed)

I bought this phone to bring a physical separation between me and my media addiction, it was exactly what I wanted. It kept me present and aware in day to day life. My grades improved, I made more friends and I actually worked on my projects. As for the actual phone it is waterproof as it survived being lost in a lake for a couple hours, the hinge is durable, I know I flopped on it enough times that it would have broken if it was going to. The speakers are wildly loud and good. Straight up works as well as a high quality drug store Bluetooth speaker and I never heard bad distortion even at the highest volume I turned it to, I never needed to turn it up all the way. I loaded my MP3s on it and used the heck out of it's music player which does pale in comparison to the iPod software or the Spotify interface but it worked perfectly. The camera is pretty mid, captures photos and video on par with phones from 2010 but if you want to send a video via text that requires forethought as you need to record it as an attachment otherwise the video file will be too big. Receiving pictures and videos can be difficult too, if a sender puts more than one image or a large video (over 1024kb) the attachment has to be downloaded to be viewed and that is best done on a computer since the file system on the phone is weird and doesn't always open the right downloaded pictures. Downloading PDF documents and viewing those is a breeze and was useful to me as I needed to download and navigate schematics often. Email is difficult since modern security doesn't allow direct logins on this interface, you'll need to create a one time key on a computer to authenticate this phone but once you're in it works great. Browsing the web is again difficult as some websites are built like something that isn't built well and won't work on this phone. A lot do though including Wikipedia and YouTube, reddit does not work. The calendar and alarm clock both work better than anything else I've used though you are limited to system sounds for the alarms. I love this phone but due to a recent job I've had to get a smartphone, on that note this is a great intermediate device when switching from apple to android since it makes you think about how to use it. 10/10 will go back to this phone if I can later into this job.

Con: It took a lot of typing to get it set up and work. Pros: Just what I want. Simple, the battery can be removed/replaced, -durable, -unlike other flip phones I have had, the button light can be turned on or off, along with the sound OR you can select a different sound to emit when you press a button. -24 hour clock option -Many other things, but simple and durable which what I wanted. :)

Phone was received promptly, it feel brand new. All features work. Wouldcrecomwnd to others looking for this type of phone. Rugged and works well in rural area where it's used.

This type of phone still has a place in the world, so if you are after simplicity, this is a great phone. Built very well, will sustain most daily activities. Simple to scroll through the settings and add contacts etc. I gave it a 4 because I think it a bit overpriced for what it is. Would be most difficult to sell, no bells no whistles. So I feel it should have been 1/2 the price that I paid….it was a “refurb”, not even brand new. Thats all.

Seller legit. Phone not fully wiped. 'Renewed' , aka used. Not mint, brand new; found a few dings with magnifying glass. Appears tough. Issue: By the time I got it switched over to carrier I'm using, (phone was unlocked as advertised), and was getting it dialed in: previously owner's password is still active; past return point. I can NOT do a factory reset without this unavailable password. I can't go to att as I'm not using them. So, several issues and unchangeable settings are having to be ' lived with' . {Wish I had got a new unlocked phone.} I can only send/receive basic text messages, no pictures or web-links. The model appears an improvement; EXCEPT for some [CENSORED] person very unwisely positioning the back button directly under the (up/dn/lf/rt) directional ring. Previous model had it off to the right above the end/pwr button. Try to scroll or move down on web, goes back one to all page(s). Burns through my data like the sun would a pack of loose leaf paper dropped on (into?) it. Also: I'm unable to tell if its due to being locked out of doing to do a complete factory reset: but, this 'upgrade' for me does 1 thing better and 20 things worse. Twenty. Web holds fewer tabs, it keeps switching to 'magnie' font, its trying to play the apps game vs having straight menus, available settings to change are less, (the different type of notifications), less flexibility than an older model, and extra drama/bureaucracy for doing small things, (3 button presses <not counting up/de selections> now take 6 to 8) {with many redo's due to placement of back button } Summary: Only buy this model new, after a long 'hands on' testing. - Do not buy used phones. Stuck having to get my worth out of this investment. When I do get to replace this one; I look forward to the expenditure of resources to remove it from existence. End of line.

Antes que nada este es un producto "reacondicionado" es decir; es usado pero se intenta limpiar y reparar para volver a circulación. El mio llegó con un golpe perceptible en la parte izquierda del dispositivo, 2 rasguños grandes que si eran perceptibles a distancia. Como el mismo vendedor dice, parece ser un teléfono resistente. Lo que me hace pensar que estos rayones no fueron hechos por descuido sino por algo un poco más contundente. Fuera de este aspecto que realmente me incomoda, trataré de dar una reseña útil para los posibles interesados en este producto. Aspectos positivos: 1.- Se escuchan perfecto las llamadas. Y aparentemente está desbloqueado para todos los servicios de telefonía en la región. 2.- Es resistente, como ya dije es un teléfono que parece resistente y no se siente hueco o barato. 3.- Tiene cierta calidad; Kyocera es marca japonesa así que no es un producto de baja calidad, es totalmente para uso profesional. 4.- las teclas se sienten excelentes; Comparado con otros modelos como el CAT Flip s22 o los nokia flip actuales. Este se lleva el premio al ser exactas y precisas, te acostumbras de inmediato a la forma de escritura. 5.- Tiene configuración en español. Aunque hay algunos errores de traducción es completamente legible esta configuración 6.- El sonido es excelente en los altavoces, casi es como uno de esos sony ericcson de antaño. 7.- Conexión Wi-fi. El teléfono tiene configuración para configuración de internet inalámbrico a un ruter. 8.- El diseño del teléfono es excelente parece que vale cada centavo. (excepto por el logo de AT&T, que me molesta personalmente, arruina todo) 9.- teclas programables: Tiene distintas teclas en los bordes y dentro del mismo teléfono que tienen funciones programables, puedes acceder a configuración , conectividad y reproductor de música fácilmente programando estas teclas ( incluyendo una naranja que es la tecla SOS). Aspectos negativos: 1.- La batería; Conectado al Wi-Fi la batería dura aproximadamente 8 horas, quizá menos. Sin el wifi o datos moviles conectado dura casi un día, pero no más. 2.- Constantemente tienes que cuidar de la batería (física); Me explico, hay una función dentro del teléfono que te recomienda activar que es "cuidado de la batería". Esto hace que cuando lo conectes toda la noche o por un tiempo prolongado solo cargue al 80% Para no dañar la batería con picos de energía. Toda esta experiencia resulta molesta; Debido a que no deberíamos preocuparnos por activar este tipo de funciones en pleno 2024. 4.- La red móvil (datos móviles). Dure una semana sin datos móviles debido a que no hay una explicación clara de como configurarlos en el empaque. Al parecer hay que configurar manualmente la red móvil introduciendo una contraseña de la misma compañía, entre otros datos; información que esta disponible en linea. Con ningún celular tuve que hacer esto antes. Me pareció nuevamente, algo reamente extraño para estos tiempos. 5.- Configuraciones: Hay una serie de configuraciones molestas que pareciera que hay que hacer cada que quieres utilizar el teléfono. Me refiero a entrar a configuración de iluminación de pantalla, encender y apagar redes. 6.- La multimedia; el reproductor de música es pésimo con opciones limitadas, solo reproducción aleatoria y siguiente. Afortunadamente tiene un puerto Jack para conectar audífonos, pero todo esto se va al traste debido a la muy mala calidad de audio en la que reproduce, es increíble. 7.- Whatsapp; se puede descargar whatsapp ya que el teléfono cuenta con navegador web. Por tanto puedes entrar a descargar esta aplicación (tiene algo similar al Android 10). Sin embargo una vez descargado empieza la pesadilla. Puedes conectarlo como dispositivo vinculado. Lo cual es bueno sin embargo la navegación es desastrosa, no hay forma de navegar por los chats y al seleccionar una conversación esta no se abre. Puedes descargar aplicaciones de apuntador pero la verdad son riesgosos y difíciles de instalar mediante un software que no tiene que ver con Kyocera. 8.- El peso; el dispositivo en sí es algo pesado como para llevarlo en un bolsillo del pantalón, es un bulto que termina posicionándose de manera horizontal en tu bolsillo y te llegas a sorprender a ti mismo acomodándolo para que no te moleste al caminar. 9.- El correo electrónico; Nunca pude configurar el correo electrónico en este dispositivo, ni gmail, ni outlook, ni un correo de la empresa en donde trabajo. Desconozco el motivo, realmente intenté configurarlo. Por esta razón no fue útil en la oficina. 10.- función e compartir internet: Esta opción no funciona el dispositivo lanza una leyenda (que desaparece de inmediato) que te avisa que esa función no funciona correctamente. Es realmente extraño. 11.- La lampara; El teléfono tiene una función de linterna pero es realmente poco lo que ilumina. Por lo menos comparado con otros dispositivos similares es increíble que ilumine tan mal. (también tiene una opción para parpadear con esta luz) 12.- Pantalla interna y externa; si no te molesta que no puedas cambiar la configuración de visualización de pantalla externa o interna entonces no es un punto negativo. Pero algo básico en un teléfono hoy en día es la personalización de las pantallas. En este caso el teléfono no cuenta más que con funciones de quitar y poner el reloj o la visualización de la fecha. Pero poco más no hay manera de configurar el idioma (por default en ingles) de la pantalla externa o la forma en que se muestra el reloj en la pantalla. En resumen; era un entusiasta de los Feature Phone; estos últimos años intenté encontrar un modelo que se amoldara a mis necesidades que no son muchas. Y tras varios nokia (modernos) , un cat flip s22, varios BLU, etc. El que acabó con mi paciencia fue este teléfono. Hay que aceptar que estamos condenados a subsistir mediante placas aburridas de vidrio negro. Me rindo.
