Great capacity pack
Great pack with plenty of volume for storage (I calculated it out to something like 125 liters). It doesn't have an across the chest strap but it does have a waist strap which keeps the pack fairly close to your center of gravity and minimizes jostling while running. I've only done a four mile walk with a 40lb load so far, but it was just as comfortable as my army acu molle pack. The exterior pockets are particularly spacious. Was able to fit a one quart canteen in either of the bottom side pouches. The bottom middle pouch holds my emergency rations (a couple MREs). The upper three pockets readily hold my tourniquets, bandages, map, compass, GPS, emergency blanket, flint and tinder. My one concern is that there is no way to adjust the height of the pack on the frame since it just kind of slips on to it (unlike a molle pack where you strap it on to the plastic frame to the desired height. MARCH 2016 UPDATE: I've had this thing for a couple years now and it's proven its durability several times over. I've put as much as eighty pounds in it and conducted 12+ mile rucks with no issue. The inability to adjust the height of the pack on the frame hasn't been a handicap at all. Overall I'm very satisfied.

frame was new but the pack was junk
alright i bought this pack knowing it was used. the pack had about a quarter size hole in all 3! of the small pouches. the strap that secures the seat belt was missing. knots in all the rope that secure the items inside the pouches. i would say a good 50% of the pack was junk because you need to patch the holes and the material has worn so thin on the whole pack im afraid it will fall apart on me in the middle of my hike. the only good thing about this pack i bought was the frame. it is a new frame and im lucky i had an extra pack laying around that i could use the frame with. so all and all the pack is junk but you can kinda expect that for the price. so i feel like i spent $45 for a frame i needed.

Great backpack but far from good condition
The backpack came far from good condition. Frame was bitten up and fabric was covered with all kind of spots which i think some was blood too. Very very poor condition. Exchanged on another one and the second came near the same condition.

USGI Quality item
Army Surplus is the way to go for any type of camping gear and this is the perfect example. Uncle Sam equips it's personnel well (unless you got a 1st release M16) and this same model took our troops from WWII through Viet Nam. It's built like a tank, it'll carry a ton, and my 14 year old soon to be Eagle Scout will likely give this pack to his son as this pack replaces the circa 1955 Alice Pack that got me through Boy Scouts and years of camping, my oldest son's Boy Scouting years, and finally it gave out while my youngest was camping with his troop a few weeks ago. The old one was faded and frayed but after 4 decades of use you'd have to expect some of that. This pack is built like my old pack so we will likely be replacing it in 2056 and I hope I'm around to write the review of it's replacement

liked it, walked seven miles with fifty pounds on my back, now i love it.
When I got it it had all the straps it was suppose to. The Alice pack frame was in good shape. An 07 on the frame indicates that it was used in 2007 l, which makes me happy there not trying to give you old war relics. Like my description says I liked the pack until I bite off more than I could chew and had to walk 7 miles with 50 pounds on the pack. After I dropped off the weight I walked another 9 miles, and I'm telling you, the only thing hurting was my shoulders and my hips. The pack kept me in good posture and kept the weight in control of my legs. I only ended up with one blister on my left foot and a bruise on my right. Well worth the buy and a must have for anyone who's going to do a lot of walking with 35+ lb.

Not as described
We purchased an Alice Pack, described as NEW and complete in main title. When it arrived it was missing the Kidney Pad that fits at the bottom of the frame. Also the paint was peeling off the aluminium frame, which we could have lived with. But also one of the straps used to secure the flap was cut partway though and useless and where the frame attaches to the pack was badly frayed and would need repair to carry any sort of weight in the pack. When we contacted the seller we initially had an apologetic letter then shortly afterwards had a somewhat less apologetic letter from someone also associated with the company stating that the condition was under a subsection of used. Yes it was but the main title has NEW(in capitol letters) and under subsection used, had the addition information "like new" so either way we were miss lead into thinking it was in new or near new condition. We got our money back but were out of pocket $16 to post back..not happy

Best Pack Ever!
As far as ALICE packs go...get this one as opposed to the medium. Mine is like new and the price just couldn't be beat. It is currently serving as my 72hr/Get Home Bag. I live quite a ways from work and yes, it will take me 3 days to get home at a steady walk. This bag holds my things and I even have room left over. I have the medium ALICE also and it works perfectly as a 24-48hr day pack. You just can't go wrong with these bags.

Item ok, should review whether pieces match and clean items.
Mismatched shoulder straps and item had a bunch of twigs dirt in pockets. Actual bag and frame are in good condition.
