The perfect gift for old people
I’ve had this product for a while now and I have gifted one to my mom and we both use it in order to set alarms, using voice commands. The only thing I wish was that the display was larger text and you could change the voice. Otherwise the sound quality is superb but it also has trouble hearing the words that come out of my mouth when trying to give it a command

I Love My Echo Show 5. But What Were Its Designers Thinking?
Firstly, let me just say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd Generation). It's everything I want in a bedside smart device and more. Also, I'm delighted by the savings I received by buying certified refurbished. Except for the plain cardboard product packaging, my Echo Show 5 truly is LIKE BRAND SPANKING NEW. However—What were the designers thinking? Who pairs a CHARCOAL-COLORED device with a WHITE power cord?? No one is THAT color blind.I opted for the CHARCOAL-COLORED Echo Show 5 because I have a beautiful mahogany, Queen Anne style nightstand and I didn't want the device to detract from the piece of furniture. But the WHITE power cord sticks out like a SORE THUMB. Also, the MISMATCHED appearance of the cord very much LIMITS where I can place my Echo Show 5 on my bedside table if I don't want that DUMB cord to be seen—and I don't.My dark Echo Dots don't have mismatched power cords. WHY are the designers punishing the charcoal-colored Echo Show 5—and Echo Show 5 owners? Does the white Echo Show 5 have a charcoal-colored power cord? If so, perhaps we should all trade.Does anyone know where I can get an Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen.) charcoal-colored power cord? (Preferably, one that won't void the warranty.) Or are they as rare as common sense?

Gradually going down hill due to firing the Alexa staff
I have 2 Echo Show 10's (Gen 2) and 3 Echo Show 5's (Gen 2)They have all deteriorated over the last year or so since Amazon seemed to hav fired the Alexa Staff in favor of investing in AI.I have factory reset them and tried a different account have the same issuesThey used to be great but 1 by 1 things are breaking. Touch buttons don't work, Alexa doesn't even know how to play what's on the screen. The only reason it gets 2 stars is SmartThings skill still works fairly well. And we are highly dependent on that.Such a shameI would not buy any Echo Show or Echo at this point. I don't know a good alternative. And we don't mind the ads at all. Only would like it to work as well as it used toUPDATE: It came back to life.

Littered with ads
When I first got the Echo Show 5, I primarily wanted it to be a "smart" alarm clock that I could see the date/time across the room and which I could also use as an Alexa device for smart home features. My primary purpose is to tell the time, date, and maybe the weather. I want it displaying this information 100% of the time, unless I specifically ask it for something else.At first, it mostly did this and did what it's supposed to do. Occasionally the clock would disappear or get really small, but it was infrequent. However, over time, unrelated content or content I wasn't interested in started to appear on the device, including ads. I found that Amazon slowly added new features/options to the Home content screen, and it would automatically enable these features. This would force me to go into the settings and turn off these options so they would no longer display. Very annoying when I have 13 different Echo Show 5 devices across my house.Well now they are showing ads, mainly related to purchases I have done in the past on Amazon, regardless if I have all home content turned off. There is no way that I have found to turn off the ads. Even worse, the devices now primarily show the ads instead of the clock. This device has essentially become an Amazon billboard across my house instead of the clock that I paid for. This is a device I paid for, not something I got for free by agreeing to ads!The experience has become so horrible that I am actively looking to get off the Amazon/Alexa ecosystem and use something else for my alarm clock/smart home needs. Shame on you Amazon!
