Little is known about the conduit of Babylonian astronomy to Ptolemy's Almagest. Geminos apparently played an important role. His discussion of the Moon's daily motion was the earliest Greek source of the linear zigzag function characteristic of Babylonian lunar theory. He furnished a template of the day-by-day motion of the moon over 248 days, which then repeated. From any starting point, the template could be used to determine the position of the moon over successive days. This scheme is known as Babylonian system B.
