Fantastic Value, Easy to Follow, Excellent Book
This book is wonderful. The illustrations are clear and concise. It is very well-organized and informative. Every page is full color and chock-full of hot tips. The book at full price is worth every penny!I teach Scratch Programming to elementary and middle school students, and I find this is one of the most approachable, useful, thorough and fun of all the books on Scratch I have found to-date.I recommend this book to all my students and their parents, and would also recommend it to anyone trying to learn or to teach Scratch. Thank you to the author for putting together such an excellent resource.

Great book at a great price
The book covers a lot of examples that are easy to follow - and in color, which is important for younger users to be able to follow along. It's a book I've both used with my own children and adapted for classroom use - for kids AND adults. I really appreciate that McManus also covers some physical computing examples at the end of the book - including using webcams, microphones, the PicoBoard and the Raspberry Pi.

Great photos of excat code segments
Author knows his stuff. But trying to cover two versions of the program in one book can get confusing. Great photos of excat code segments, but the colors arent exactly correct ( or MIT chenged them?) so that causes some menu confusion. I like the companion book on Scratch Projects a little better if you are only going to buy one. (It comes with 3D glass for one interesting project.) You don't need this boom to use the other.

Perfect guidebook to begin exploring Scratch
A fine example of clear and easily understood writing to set you off on your computer programming journeys, regardless of age! A perfect textbook for any beginner, it will guide you through the initial understanding of basic concepts, and will have you running fun examples of Scratch code very quickly. I adopted Sean's book on my iPad as my first Scratch bible, and was very happy to be coding tricky programs with great results within a week. Highly recommended, and great value.

Great introduction
How times have changed. Years ago, I learnt how to program by copying listings from magazines. The real education came from having to debug all the typos that had inevitably occurred during the printing process. If the program ever worked properly it would be a major achievement. These days, you get lots of lovely screenshots, and a super-friendly language to compose your efforts. With the help of this book, your child will whizz through the learning process of Scratch, and will soon be producing games works of art with which to amuse you.You should try and insure that they follow the book from chapter to chapter though. If they jump straight to the more interesting games at the end, they will not understand what they have to do, as the chapters are designed to be followed in sequence. This is probably not the only book you will want to buy your child on Scratch, but it should be the first.

This book is brilliant. I have had some previous experience with a programming environment ,that is based on scratch, at uni. After spending 2-3 half days with this book I was easily able to complete the programming part of my End of module assignment really easily. Whats even better is that I actually enjoyed it whereas with the uni one I found a bit of a chore

Excellent teaching aid for young kids
I bought this for my 6 year old son. He is already fairly computer literate for his age (I gave him my old laptop when he was 3). He has a play with Scratch, but doesn't read the book much unless I work with him, but that's probably to be expected of a six year old. The book is very clearly written and introduces the Scratch editor, and the programming constructs in nice easy chunks.

It really is 'in easy steps'
A very easy to follow book for anyone who has no programming experience. My 8 year old son has no problem following the guide without any adult help - it is written in a clear, child friendly way. For me, as an adult that can only use word processing packages and the web/email etc, this book has proven to be a great introduction into the world of programming. Adult and child can learn together - perfect!

Very easy to follow
I bought the book to help me teach the new coding part of the national curriculum. Very helpful for me as it gave me some working knowledge and my class ended up producing some really good games. I went from knowing nothing at all about Scratch to actually being able to keep up with half my class. As for the other half, how do children pick up things so fast?
