I haven't used it yet but it looks like an anolog potentiometer that you can set with a small flathead screwdriver. As for the values there's no faceplate to indicate so you'd have to experiment with a stopwatch.

How does the timer work?

Press the button one time - solid green LED on the PCB and atomizer is always on. Press the button again, and the green LED flashes - on for 10 seconds, off for 5 seconds, on for 10 seconds, off for 5 seconds, etc... . Press the button again, and the green LED turns off, along with the unit.

What is the connector from the actual smoke machine to the base that has the switch? I need to buy an extension from the mister to the power source

The power connector is a standard micro USB connector. Be warned, mine didn't work at all.
