One of the best design books ever written
I have read this book many, many times over the years I have owned it ( and Wheatman's other book, "Meditations on Design" ) and always get inspiration from the words and the photos. I'm just sorry that John has only published 2 books - he has so much to tell us all about how to create a beautifully designed home for living our own lives. He is a fabulous teacher.Unfortunately, the conversion for Kindle has broken up many of the photo spreads, making the flow a little awkward. I still love having it with me on my iPad, but the hard copy is a better format for this particular subject.

Pretty and Poetic
This book has pretty photographs and text that leans toward the "poetic". I found it a little light on practical advice, and generally a little light. I burned through it in an hour or two, and it left me kind of unsatisfied. There's something a little pretentious about the philosophizing. It may just be a question of taste, but this one didn't really suit mine. A Good House is okay, and I agree with his basic premiss, but I guess I expected something more substantive.

Not trendy, just good solid design info
This is the most interesting book on design that I have read. Not specific to a certain period or style, not trendy,it just offers good design principles that are timeless, and the rooms featured also have a timeless, comfortable tastefulness. After I checked it out of the library a few times, I decided it was one I wanted to own and refer to from time to time. It's in my "nightstand library" and will remain there until I am through feathering my nest.

Inspiration for an evolving home
I had borrowed this book a number of times from my local library but decided I just had to have it. It is very inspirational in that it offers ways and means of creating your own personal way to display and arrange items in your house. I find it wonderful to read when I want to make changes and the quotes are wonderful. A good reference book for engendering a feeling of being tranquil and at one with the interiors of your house/home. Jane

A "must read" for all home builders/buyers/and remodelers if you want the most functional/appealing home ever!
Referred to Sarah's collection of books when remodeling our 1800's house. Received an architectural education written for the common lay person! Thru the past decade, we've applied the principles explained in her books, and what a HUGE difference they have made in the function/comfort/appearance/coziness/healthfulness of our home! WOW!

interior design from the guru
John Wheatman is the best interior designer I know. His book is filled with wonderful images of timeless contemporary style done right, blending Asian and European antiques with clean modern lines. Both of his books are must haves for interior designers or homeowners who enjoy classic good taste in their homes.

kind of a disapointment
I was expecting more from this book. The house look great, some details are interesting but at the end of the day, you do not really see how the functionality blend with the beautiful details. Often it is simply look how this is beautiful and would most probably cost an arm and a leg without bringing real improvements on the house except for the one that actually like this. I think that the books from sarah susanka are way better.
