It darkened the leather (a lot!) but they're waterproof now. I bought that to replace my 22 year old work boots that finally have out. I use them every day, and put 1000's of miles on my first pair. I used to work 12 hour shifts and walk 12-15 miles per day. These are comfortable and hold up well to daily abuse. I am on my second pair now, but the first is still good for outside tasks. The stitching is coming loose on the first pair after a few years of heavy daily use. They are still super comfortable.
