MATLAB For Dummies

Great Book but pair it with a few other ones.
This book is a great book for learning MatLab but a caveat is that it focuses more on the language than the Mathematical theory and applications. As such, I think an individual should couple this with a few Mathematics books as well.

New user to MATLAB
I am (was) a new user to MATLAB and work alone. I took advantage of their 30 day trial. I wanted some kind of ref beside what was included in the software. The book was a great reference to have next to me as i worked through the MATLAB tutorials and then afterwards when i worked linear algebra problems. and began scripting. The book contains a brief but adequate list of commands, a chapter on plotting, scripting, plotting and others. I'm sure I'll continue using it.Jack Smith PE

All Fluff
I bought this book to help solve matrices for a course in Linear Algebra. Specifically I wanted to solve and work with linear equations using matrices. This book did not get to this topic until page 406 and then it referred the reader to a web site. The one example in the book for solving linear equations by a matrix was so obscure as to not be helpful. This book is all fluff and very little substance. I threw it away after three days of trying to find something useful. Even the things I knew about using MATLAB which I found out on the internet were poorly done. For example, the book says to separate each number in a matrix with a comma. It is much faster and easier to separate the numbers with a space.Definitely not worth the time or money to read this book.
