Q: Does the door sensor use a widely available battery (for example AA, AAA, 9V) or something odd?

You all are obviously just guessing at answers as the Sensor uses a CR2032 battery NOT a AAA or AA or 9V! It is a round nickel sized battery called a CR2032 its is on page 4 of the manual that comes with the unit.

Q: Our office has a lot of people continuously walking by the front door where we want the door chime. Will the chime keep going off every time someone walks by that is NOT even entering the office and just passing through the receptionist area?

This is not a motion sensor chime. It will take someone opening the door to trigger the chime. So, folks walking by (unless they open your door) shouldn't trigger it.

I am not sure, but maybe because this have a bell sound, one longer and other short, it have a low pitch frequency. If you find another model with an alarm noise, you may be able to go up to 120dB decibels what is very high for a humans. I installed it in a deli/food store where it have a background music and no matter I point the chime to the center of the store from the door we monitoring, the sound is not enough (at the door, is ok); so we will look for a device who have multiple chime (device connect to the outlet) so we can locate each one in a different electrical outlet inside the store so the employees can hear when they open the door. I think if you use it in a quiet home or place it will be enogh but not with background music plus customers kids come in and out all day

Q: will the door alert sensor work on metal door and frames?

You attach the door alert sensor to the door with double stick tape. My sensor is attached to a glass door.
